Great idea, Stereo!

This was one of my first Tenyo..bought before I even knew what Tenyo was.

I was looking for a pocket sized 'rabbit from hat' and this fit the bill. It was a plus that it used a matchbox. ( I like matchbox tricks and collect old matchboxes.)
As far as I know, it is the only trick of its kind.

It took me a while to get the handling perfect but since then, it has proven to be very reliable.
I painted the tips of the matches and only put a few in the box because I found that too many matches tend to 'jam' up the works.

I start with the obligatory "watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat" then I show the hat on the box and briefly show the present on the back. I continue with the production. Afterwards, I ask 'so where did the rabbit come from?'
then I show the back again...taa daa!!
Well, that's the abridged version, anyway.

I usually get a 'that's so cute' reaction from the ladies before they fall to my feet in a swoon...ok, I made that last part up, but it could happen. Kids usually get a kick out of it. Grown men, not so much.
I've used it at weddings with good results and once or twice while waiting in line when there are kids in front of me. I won't mention matches when I do it for kids and just say its a 'magic box'
I stopped carrying it with me though because it was starting to show some wear.
I did buy a spare and at one time was brainstorming a way to transfer the guts into a real matchbox. That project has been put on the back burner for now though.

All in all, I am a big fan of this one. There are very few Tenyo I have ever taken out of the house with me. This was one of them.

Still relatively easy to find (for now), I consider this a 'sleeper'

Do I think it will ever reach mythical status, like say, alpha tunnel or diabolicus?
No, but I feel it is a solid 'Tenyo' and it will stand the test of time as one of the 'good ones'

Thank you Marlow, very interesting.

I think it's maybe possible to "dress" the plastic box to look like cardboard, at least on both ends, either by sticking a thnin cardboard rectangle, or using sheet of tissue paper that are decorated and very easily to stick for interior and exterior of the box.

Great overview Marlowe. I have always liked the effect/routine for this. A nice bit of magical whimsy. However I have never been able to get it to work consistently for me without jamming. Alas it was relegated to the display cabinet only. I am now inspired to pull it out and play with it again.

Very difficult to say which items will be in demand 10 or 20 years from now. Items such as this that are a little more fragile may have a good chance of increasing in value in future years if in very good condition. I am sure when Astro Tube came out no magician would have or could have predicted what it would be worth in future years.

Yes the handling is not always easy, but I have try several time and following the instructions exactly it works better.

It's funny to see that Shimomura like the effect with small boxes : Trap box, Magician's matchbox, Mystery China Box, Ghost pet, Nostradamus clock and others who have small boxes like Pop-Up cards, magician's Finger, bird watcher etc... (He like mentalism effect too)

There is a DP group trick with Matchbox I don't have but I like the video :

I like the artwork on the matchbox, it's simple and looks snappy and I think the use of the hat, rabbit or dove as well as the matchbox is a classic magic style. The dove and bunny are a cute production. The magical part of it didn't seem to amaze people like some other Tenyo- but does bring a smile to peoples faces. I'm not a good judge of what becomes collectable, but I really like this one. I never had a problem with the mechanics - handle gently!

Thank you for your review, I really like this one too.
I also like the double effect with the final and the drawing changing. It's clever. I agree that this is not a WOW effect, it's a cute effect.
It looks like a mini automaton with his mechanism.
I think it is possible, if you have 2 Magician's matchbox or if you can load it discreetly, to ask at the beginning to the spectator what comes out of a magician's hat ? The majority will say rabbit, and you can make it appear, but if the person says doves you can insist on the fact that this is an uncommon response because people respond Rabbit in general, and now say ok, a dove ? and make it appear. And this is even more impressive. Sorry not easy to explain in English.
