Greetings!
Thought I should say hello since I recently joined. I am New here, but started in magic way back in 1975. I ONCE had aspirations of being the next Copperfield (ah, the ignorance of youth) but found a more conventional path in life. As a hobbyist, I discovered a love for close-up whereas I had mostly been a stage or "club" magician as far as my public performances went. After becoming a Christian, I had convictions (and still wrestling) with what place magic can have in my life / obedience to God's Word. (Another subject already being addressed in the forum, so not trying to start one here...just background info) I currently am working on developing routines that present Biblical teachings and Doctrinal issues that are difficult to visualize/comprehend in our physical realm (e.g.- The Trinity, Predestination vs Freewill, Justification, Sanctification, etc..) in a way that isn't "campy" or trivial, but has real IMPACT to leave people with a clearer understanding or make them think. Also, I LOVE helping Gospel magicians put together biblically accurate routines and patter, that teaches AND entertains better than what we have grown accustomed to. I welcome Private Messages from any Christian performers seeking such input! Bottom line for me: If I cannot use magic to Glorify God, and expand His kingdom; then I will no longer do magic. FOR NOW I am finding a way. I look forward to discussions and meeting new folks! BLESSINGS and pleased to be here. Stephon

Thanks Mary!
I agree. We like to imagine that there aren't any really atrociously written routines out there. But we all know that "bad magic" is what gives a bad name to an awesome performing art. It's why some people run when they here "Hi I'm a magician!" (Similar to why Mimes are so hated...BAHAHAHA...Just kidding [but not really]). Anyway, thanks for the welcome. You are QUITE the dedicated post writer here with 1,893 posts! It makes me tired thinking about getting from 18 to that number!

And that doesn't count post in "Our new arrivals" or "Not Very Magical, Still".
Being unpopular in the real world isn't the disadvantage it used to be. Sorry Sparky, at 926, chopped liver indeed. -Mary |
