I've been using a Johnson Scotch & Soda set for years and love it. But I also love the quality and magnetic advantages that Miracle Coin Unique offers from Mark Mason. The only thing I don't like about Miracle Coin Unique is the fact that it involves 2 silver coins. The contrast of Copper & Silver I feel makes for more visual impact in any routine. So that raises the obvious question... is there a Miracle Coin Unique magnetic set out there that involves a smaller copper coin instead of a smaller silver coin? And if there is, does anyone recommend it, or am I better off sticking with my current non-magnetic set?

And since I've never actually seen the Miracle Coin Unique except on video, I don't know how well it can be examined. Visually, is the nested non-magnetic half less or more detectable than the magnetic half that comes with Miracle Coin Unique? Finally, which one feels more like a normal coin upon examination once nested (weight and surface)?

I've been using Captain and Coke 2 for a while now and have come to much prefer it over my old Johnson Scotch and Soda. First of all, this is a routine where I like the idea of using common coins because my routine revolves around the premise that these are coins they see and touch every day of their lives, but how much attention do they really pay to them?
I have even borrowed the coins from the spec but that whole concept is tricky due to the age of their coins and other factors.

Second reason I prefer C&C2 is that I have grown to absolutely detest bang rings. Not only are they an extra nuisance to carry around, but I now just abhor the idea of finding somewhere private and having to make this loud bang. It just seems unprofessional to me at this point in my life and kind of reminds me of a schoolboy sneaking a smoke in the boys room. Probably strange I know, but I never realized how much I disliked the bang ring until I stopped needing to use one.
With Captain and Coke, the coins can be handled by the spec but not closely examined but because of their familiarity with them the specs aren't too interested in examining the coins anyway. It is a simple matter to quickly switch one out and let them examine them if they want, although if they are that interested in them I don't just let them examine them, I let them KEEP them. Ya ain't gonna do that with your Morgans or Liberty's!!!

Best,
Bill

C&C2 is a great effect. I also enjoy it but have yet to use it on anyone other then close family or friends. It's very deceptive and works great

If you like the Miracle Coin Unique and don't mind a gambling or casino theme, there is no better contrast than the Miracle Chip (also by Mark Mason). See here:

No bang ring, but it is so deceptive I don't hesitate to have spectators handle this.

I like my miracle chip but the insert feels "loose" if that makes any sense

Great feedback - thanks! I definitely like the innocence of C&C2 using common coins, but the clean finish of the traditional S&S set also has it's advantages since my current routine ends in the spectators hands. I've been using my same Johnson S&S set for over 20 years and it's still flawless. Come to think of it, I can say the same for their cigarette thru quarter. Their quality is amazing, although I suspect that I'm now delving into a whole new realm of quality with Mark Mason's coins. As a side note, I just learned from Johnson Products that they actually have a lifetime warranty on all their coins. I never knew that, but I think that is very impressive. If any of their coins ever fail you and you send it back to them, they will either fix or replace the set with a new one no questions asked! And their customer service was very friendly over the phone today.

Back to the topic at hand. I personally have never had any issues with a bang ring. That's because I've never used one! I figured out how to cup my fingers in a circle around the coin and use the palm of my other hand for the bang surface. It makes no noise, and I've been able to dislodge the gimmick on the first attempt consistently, even though it's actually a tight fit.

Anyway, here's my verdict! I ordered the Miracle Coin Unique today from Mark Mason since I couldn't pass on the quality, workmanship, and practicality of the set. And as a side note, I also bought Triception and Double Deception Deluxe from him today, and took out a 2nd mortgage on my home (kidding - lol). I may also now fork out the money on the C&C2 for situations where a switch is easy and where borrowing coins is preferred. But I spoke to Mark Mason today and learned that for the same price as Miracle Coin Unique, he will make you a Silver Half/English Penny version within a couple weeks. It's nice to know that this is an option, but the more I thought about it, I believe the smaller quarter is actually much more impressive than the larger English Penny - and Mark felt the same.

You must have got ahold of a bad one. I've owned three: a quarter, a Half dollar and a backup half dollar that I sold to someone on the Café unopened because after a couple years of hard use, I could see these were going to last. If you know where to put your fingers, you might get the i****t to rotate a little bit (which would be true for the coin unique as well). But it should not be loose. You might want to talk to Mark to see if yours is faulty. His customer service is second to none.

Same here. I have a Miracle Chip in quarter size and a Miracle Coin Unique half $/quarter. Both fit perfectly and are undetectable. BTW the routines shown for the Miracle Chip all work perfectly for the Miracle Coin Unique too.

Miracle Chip sure sounds nice. In fact, it sounds like a terrific magnetic option for getting the contrast I was seeking. My only gripe with it is that I prefer avoiding using any prop (in this case a poker chip) that screams gimmick since its not as common place and unsuspecting as everyday coins. But the fact that it can be examined without any real issues, and has such strong visual impact makes me think it will eventually become a future purchase for me after I first play around with Miracle Coin Unique. Of course then I'll be inclined to figure out a way to utilize both gimmicks in a routine in order to justify the added expenditure. Thanks for further confusing my life with yet another wishlist item! Kidding of course. I love all the valuable feedback.

Gary,
Congrats on your recent purchases! You have made me very jealous!!! I am sure you will love them.
Hope you will post your initial thoughts and feelings about them all shortly after you receive them.

Just for the record, I end my C&C2 version of Scotch & Soda with the coins in the spectators hands so that can quite easily (and safely) be done.

I have tried to release my locking s***ls the way you describe but all I get is bruised hands. Last time I tried it the fingernail on my pinky jammed into my palm hard enough to draw blood so I haven't tried again since. Yours must be looser than mine or else I have never discovered the right knack.

Best of luck,
Bill

Bill,

Sorry if I motivated your bruising & bleeding experience! My coin is definitely a tight fit, but the technique I've mastered over the past 20 years has worked on every locking shell I've ever encountered, including new ones from magic shops.

Maybe I should release a DVD tutorial on how to use your hands like a bang ring, so that I can make millions and retire! ha ha...

I'll name the DVD "HANDY ways to get a BANG for your buck!".

Are you guys saying there is no play? I also feel mine is too loose. If you shake it, it rattles. If I lay it down and put a finger on the insert and try to push it towards one side or the other, it moves just the slightest bit. I can also see it shift position, although again, very slightly. Still, it is enough that I could not let anyone touch the coin for fear then might push a finger as they picked it up and feel the shift, or shake it and hear and feel the insert bang back and forth against the sides of the chip.
