Since we're talking about "What's better in magic" and "Apples or Oranges", I'd like to post my recommendation.

How about Jim Steinmeyer's "Apples and Oranges"? For those of you who can still find the July 1999 issue of MAGIC, you have a great trick on your hands!

I prefer fruitloops myself.

just kidding! I'm originally from Washington state and my family had apple orchards.

Did you know that most of the apples you get in the store in the U.S. are a year old. They are stored and preserved in rooms full of carbon dioxide.

In defense of the orange though...

I still can't find a rhyme for it.

Lastly
Isn't a chili pepper a fruit? Smile

Ah! Just did a search. If I've got TP right then definitely over - but more often than not, still in the cupboard Smile .

Who'd have thought a humble question about Apples and Oranges could be so fruitful (BAAAAAAAAAAD Pun, apologies in advance).

Hi Beetroot,

I am writing this with the greatest respect for you and your opinion on apples and oranges but I think,Banana's are still the more dynamic of the bunch.

USA, I would suggest that don't be swayed by the lastest craze in Mango's and Watermellon..stay with the trusty banana. This fruit has had documentation to prove it's merits and I'm sure the likes of Marlo, Vernon and even Robert Houdin would have agree with me that the banana has been tried and stuck with over the years due to it's durability. Oh sure sometimes it goes a bit brown but no matter..it still has many uses. (Yum! banana bread!) you can't say that about aged apples or oranges.

Nope those are probably collecting dust bunnies on a shelf somewhere in someone's magic room. The banana on the other hand has even been used by Copperfield himself ..the Banana/Bandana routine. How about those color changes too..from green to yellow then brown. Magical!!

I would suggest you start off with books perhaps "Ode to the Great Banana", written by John Banannini, or "King of Banana's" based on the life of Harry Bandini. There is also a wealth of information contained in the lecture notes of ...umm forget at the moment. Perhaps some of the other members can help me out here?

Lastly, stay clear of cheap imitators. The sponge bananas come to mind, stick with the real thing! Be sure to give credit to the banana tree should you decide to eventually alter through genetics the appearance of this fruit. Give credit where credit is due.

>>makes note to self..should get out more.

This just in..... Interesting apple fact (that I saw on TV last night).

If the seeds from an apple are used to grow a new apple tree, the new apple tree will be of a different species from that of the original apple. If you want the same species as the original apple you have to graft from the tree it came from!

Hi Beetroot,

Yes, amazingly true. In fact most genetically tampered fruits and veggies go back to their true natural wild form if the seeds are sown. Weirder still, is you are able to graft 3 different branches on a rose bush for example, and end up with three different colored roses! I admit this holds true for apples too. You can actually have two different types of apples on branches growing on the same tree.

I think your wife is right!! Besides, you can always tell when a magician is going to say something smart when he starts his sentence with: "My assistant once told me..or my wife once told me..."

>>prepares for throwing of veggies.

I hate when you are eating an apple and a piece of the skin gets stuck between your teeth, it is a real pain to get that out. Even with that I have to go with an apple over an orange simply because if you want one you just eat it, you don't have to peal it.

I'm glad this matter is finaly settled: apple it is endeed. And since this is a Café I propose new question:
TOMATO... fruit or a veggie??????????
and if it is truly a fruit then wouldn't tomato be a king of fruit?
just think about it:
salsa, ketchup, tomato fights, marinara sauce... and about million other things.
this would shift/change the way we think about our world, change the world as we know it, the paradigm or whatever would.... ehem...... whatever happens to a paradigm would surely happen.

Tomato - veggie. Let's face it - serving up a tomato in a fruit salad isn't going to do you any favours is it?

But it's a pretty versatile thing as you suggest. Comes in all kinds of sizes from beefsteak down to cherry.

I'd say possible king of the vegetables (if it were a vegetable - which it isn't - even if I think it should be Smile ).

I've just looked at my previous post and noticed a strong similarity between the smiley and my avatar. My wife already told me it looked a bit scarey!

New avatar on the way I think!

MANGOS,MANGOS,MANGOS! What's wrong with you people! Yeesh! May I strongly suggest you change your mind and see it MY way. Mangos hang out in paradise, therefore they taste like it.

There is NO WAY a tomato (pronounced: TOE-MAY-TOE) is a vegetable, it looks like a fruit so it has to be one. End of story!

I say you tell her "Goodbye". You HAVE to pick between us or her. Remember, "there are plenty of fish in the sea".

But there is only ONE Café. What do you think he should do everybody? Leave his wife or give up the Café?

Hi Kihei Kid,

I think you are being swayed by the latest craze myself..Mangoes! I should say not!! Although, I grudgedly admit they do taste really good..especially Mango Icecream..Mango Pie..sigh

Okay forget what I said earlier about banana's ...go with Mangoes!! Thank you for letting me see the light.

Now as for tomatoes, they are a fruit..but I mix them with veggies myself. Oh anyone ever taste grape tomatoes? To die for!

I vote Beetroot stay with his wife. Better yet, get her to join the Café!! Smile

Smile Sound logic! Unfortunately, logic loses in matters of the heart. After all who would buy me all of my magic presents at Christmas? Who would rub my shoulders when they ache? Who would I have to rush down to the hospital after she falls over in the shower breaking some ribs?

I don't think that would ever happen. She spends enough time tolerating my constant "look at this!", "is this any good?", "I can't figure this out, do you understand it?" etc. etc. She's a lovely woman and she's just told me that I'm very lucky to have her.

However, she doesn't like tomatoes (pronounced TOM-AH-TOES Smile ) or mangos - judge this how you will.

Grape tomatoes? Hmmmm.

Chrystal, I see you are a thinker what a great idea, could not agree more. She could go under the alias... Mrs. Beetroot

Beetroot, I retract my last statement. What a terrific lady you have. Anyone who will help you with your effects is a keeper.

Were going to miss you here at the Café. Smile I will notify management of your decision.
