Hi Daeld, well, I'm not call my self a real pro even that right now I'm negotiating with a chain of restaurants to be part of their marketing team as a magician, because only have been payed to make magic 3 times, I use magic more as parts of my skill in my job as an advisor to make my costumers feel that I'm an expert in almost anything they want. I'm strategy advisor and usually the when I get in a company to do my thing the person who like it most to be done my job is the boss of the person with I will be talking to understand the way of the company, and a lot of time they aren't opened to share with me things about their works and magic is one of the tools I use to make people open about me and about my expertise. Let me share you one little story:
About 3 years ago I was practicing palming 5 coins and produce each one with out sound and with out the fell down from my hand, I was waiting in a meeting room and the person who will talk to me about what they need was really stressed because that week is one of the hardest week of the years for they the she come in and started talking like a parrot and very very fast, I raised my hand and said "watch" and produce each coin on the table in a very paused way and she said something like "oh god! are you magician?" after I told her that I'm a magician and that I'm going to make magic in their company she was open and give me about 2hrs beside the 20min she said she have when she came in the room. After that day every time I see a open opportunity to make magic in my advisor work I do it. About one of the few time I had been booked, was thanks to a party in EMI music where one of my friends invite me as a guest and even when he is a friend from high school, he didn't know I'm a magician because I'm have being magician for about 4 to 5 years, and haven't see he about 8 years and after he saw me in the party doing one rope routine (a short of fiber optics by Richard Sanders), an ambitious card, a card monte and wallet pen (from David Stone coin magic vol 1) he yell to me (there were a lot of noise): "Man you have to come to the end years party!" and I was like ok, then he yell again saying: "Not as guest, as a magician" and that was the first time I was booked to do magic in a corporation. |

That's brilliant! I like very much that you have used magic in your work. In my work, I often get kids that come and are a little unsure of what will happen or are a little scared. I will often use magic there to help settle nerves and establish rapport. Sometimes I use it with some of my workmates who can get a little stressed at times.
What I think is brilliant about your story is that you use it to help establish rapport AND has even led to you getting a show going! That's excellent. I hope to see you on TV in the next couple of years! Well done! |

Thanks Mary, about my positive attitude all is because I'm maybe one of the most positive beings alive, an ex-girlfriend said pretty often to me: The most awful think about you is that you live in happy land.
That was one of the last things she say to me as a couple. I'm happy about it (yes living in happy land) because if there are person who "care" about you and don't like you to pursue your dreams when you are no quitting (this is really important) your responsibilities, is a person that you need to go as far as possible. Edward. P.D. Yankay37 my hat is from the trademark Zara you can find it in the retail stores (No they don't pay me to make advertising,.......... at least yet, who would know in the future ) |

Hi Tora, Thanks for the welcome, and you are right, here is one in a kind place, It is like being able to talk with magicians and ask them even when in person you can't do that, I live in one of the most biggest cities in the world, but to be honest, lacking of good magic, even when we are like 40million person in the city and near areas (you can't distinguish where does this city end, ands and start other state when you are driving leaving mexico city) this place lacks of really good magic, there are like 2 maybe 4 good magicians, the "best" and the "biggest" store of magic when some one goes in it depress you at least me and the person who involve me in this awesome world have the that opinion and that is a thing I want to change (as a said I live in a kind of happy land ) and one of the things I saw to start this is to open a real magicians store, with out anything for clowns (If a clown gets in I will don't mind to sell him, but there wouldn't be the things that they usually use), I'm saying that because here all "magicians stores" are more oriented to clowns than to magicians, and that is why it depress me more that store and is the biggest one "best" one here. The other thing I can try (the other I can do, in some time, but I'm sure it can be doable, this one is really most difficult but I will try as hard as God let me) is to have so perfect kind of shows, that the public the audience (all person here) start to demand hi quality to any other magician, because the ones I saw in some local conventions expecting 2 to 4 magicians and some others 3 that I Know are lower than mediocre, they don'g care about glimpse their effect to people (even when they are on tv, and that make me feel sad about that), and it seems as soon as they get the chance to live from magic (making money) even when their acts are not polish at all or their "tricks" are no perfect, they go out and start a living about this, I'm not saying that isn't good to make a living about magic, even is a real nice thing, but after you master something as most as perfect as humanly being possible.
I like art a lot, since magic is an art and because I'm a really technical person (I realize that after one sensei and one sa-bum-nim, one from kendo the second one for tae-kwon-do said that I'm so technical that even when it appears that I master a movement or technic I wouldn't use it after I know it is perfect from my point of view) I would like to make that for the art that is given me a lot of time of enjoyment. I'm not perfect, but I try to be as good as can be done that is a lesson a leaned from an uncle who is surgical oncologist (one of the best here) if he mistakes person dies and I think that we had to have this approach to our lives even when one mistake of us do not mean person would die for it, the problem is that we will be killing part of them and no notice that. Edward, good luck with your store! I don't want to discourage you, but in this country magic shops are barely surviving. They carry clown stuff, costumes, juggling gear and anything else that will help them survive. Mexico may be different.

Hi Goromel, Can you tell me where are you from?
You are not going to discourage me, this project to me, at least is a two to three years project to be started, in my business life I'm a strategic advisor in business, and some of the things I have learned about my costumers is that if there aren't market, you have to make your own market, since I'm in a city with a floating population about 30 to 40 million people the potential market is huge, the amount of possible costumer is as well, I'm not talking in opening a store in a town of 3 million person, or a village of few thousands, then if I would be able to attract at least the .01% to at least come or get interested and at least come will be around 3500, and if only 10% of they get in to magic, for a narrowed business like that would be a really good point (yes that is my positive scenario), but I wouldn't being able to know if this would be a success until some one (I think that some one have to be me) try. If I would be able to make a such place where magicians feels good and free to share, with no losses, even if the financial utility is really low and the profitability is poor, I would love to have that white elephant. As I said, "I like to live in happy land" the thing I dind't said, is that I make my land a happy land |

I live in Sacramento, California. We do have a magic shop, Grand Illusions. It's a family business. It also carries juggling equipment and costumes besides magic. And they bring in magicians to do lectures, which brings in some money. I have no idea how they are doing financially.
It sounds like you have what it takes to start a magic shop there if anyone does. Good Luck! |

Thanks Gomerel
That store sounds good, they try or do something for magic there, the thing that I do not like about the 3 magic shops I know here, is: For the big one and in the most common knowledge of people: It looks more a emo place than a happy place To be honest it depress me when I go in (is a share feeling with some magicians I know) and If I want something like for example the enchanted cube from fooler doolers (I hope I wrote it correctly) if they have something like, it would be a copy of it. the others two: Is like a room in their house, aren't open as store, there are pretty smalls, don't invite you to go with friends or something like to allure more persons to magic and the inventory lacks of inventory, is more like the things the magician didn't use yet, then if you want something that the magician of that store do not use, there aren't going to be that item. To be honest I want to make a place like a comic store (like the place where people go and play RPGs games) more than a simple shop. To being able to make that, I'm going to adapt some of the tactics this kind of stores have to allure costumers through costumers. If you want to know how I know about this stores, when I was a kid I was a really geek kid, now, I'm only geek but that kind of tactics that can attract costumers and not regarding that is a really narrowed market can be apply to other kind of narrowed business. (Yes I like to practice what I do for living for my self) |
