Leeman,
A very good floating finger ring using IT (but NOT loops) is Terry Lunceford's Floating Finger Ring. Great "get-ready" hook-up AND the participant (spectator) can actually reach up and remove her ring in mid-air from the IT (and no, the IT does not break as the ring is removed). And because of Terry's particular hook-up the ring does not appear to be merely hanging from an invisible string. As for a finger ring on rope routine, I agree that you will be hard pressed to find a routine any better than Greg Wilson's RingLeader. Finally, for those who didn't like Greg Wilson's performance of Jay Sankey's ring on spoon routine, watch Jay Sankey perform his own (Sankey's) finger ring on spoon routine. It is on one of his tape series but I can't remember which series (it did have three VHS tapes in the series). I wouldn't necessarily perform this effect by itself but it is a natural to combine with Ring Leader or a few other ring routines. Mike

The ring on wand, thought by Jon LeClair using IT is one of my personal favourites, the spectators ring, she holds the wand, she makes the magic happen....

...As long as i`m not a world-champion at anything, the great reactions of doin` magic will do just fine.....

Is this where the ring rises up the wand?

Damien,
No, this is where the ring moves horizontally off of the wand and the wand can be held in spectator's hand and with spectator's other hand at the end of the wand to catch the ring. Mike

Right, thanks for all the help everyone. Christmas is coming and I have some ideas. I was just wondering how practical Ring Flight is?

Ring Flight- Is a great trick, but there are, in my opinion, a few drawbacks. One being there's a moment that the ring is not under your control. (way to much of a risk).
The second, I have heard of about a dozen magicians say how their Ring Flight broke while performing. I have performed my very own Ring Routine on a large stage and it plays extremely well to a large crowd. So don't think ring = must do close-up. Play around see what you like and add as much personality to your routine as you can. Cheers-Chris |

Where is the LeClair Ring, Wand and IT routine written up? Is it in Who's Afraid of Invisible Thread? Thanks.

I love Gregory Wilson's tape, and I believe he handled Stiring Silver quite well.
It's strength lies in how it made you feel after the very first time you saw it since that penetration obviously shouldn't be repeated. If it was strong for you the very first time, then he performed it well. As for the rest of the video, I love the bonus section. It contains so many useful ideas like the strike vanish, stiring silver, a sylvester-like shuttle pass, several gags, more string moves and a cool toss change. Good stuff overall

Besides El-duco´s Wedding Bell, I also LOVE Tenyo´s "Crystal Cleaver", what a great trick! If you don´t have it, you should buy it. I´m not a big fan of "looking like toys/props" tricks, but these two I mentioned are just wonderful!

Yes I mean float. I have an excellent hook up which lets you borrow the ring, float it, and the let them pick it out the air. Works great.

There is a nice (OOP?) book by Jerry Mentzer called "Magic with Finger Rings" (1984) that has many effects in it.
It is divided into three main sections: 1. The Spectator's Ring Links 2. Ropes, Rods and a Ring 3. Assorted tricks with Rings Contributors? Try Richard Himber, Steve Dusheck, Scotty York, Earl Nelson, Dan Garrett, Steven Tucker, Jerry Mentzer--to name some of the more prominent contributors. I had forgotten about it until this very moment; time to get it back out and seriously study it. Mike

I'm working on the "Ring on stem of wine glass" to tighten up the handling, and make it ONE MAN with no need to go under table, or out sight with the ring.

Mark leveridge from the uk has a nice ring and string routine that can be purchased in booklet form or it's on his second master routine's video.
and can only agree with everyone else about the greg wilson ring leader being an excellent place to devise your own routine from as it has all the basics. warren |

One of the hottest effects with a borrowed ring is El Ducos RING in SALT.
http://www.el-duco.se/bilder/produkter/ring_in_salt.jpg Effect: Ring In Salt is a classic effect! This is a close-up effect which creates sensation everywhere. Show a piece of rope and let a spectator thread his finger ring on the rope. Close your hand around the ring and rope. The spectator ties the ends of the rope together to make it impossible for the ring to come off. Give the spectator a salt shaker and ask him to pour a little "magic salt" on your closed hand. He holds his other hand under yours to catch the ring, when it is released, open your hand, and the ring is gone! The spectator, still holding the salt shaker, is asked to unscrew the cap and pour out the salt. HE FINDS HIS RING IN THE SALT!! A fantastic effect! The ring is not switched and it is the same ring which was thread on the rope just a moment before! Complete with precision made apparatus, rope and routine. |
