The annual get-together of the United Kingdom Escape Artistes was held this weekend in a very snowy Northampton, the centre of England.
Despite the snow, only 3 didn't make it and we all had a great time. Traveling the farthest, overv 400 miles from Scotland, was Andy Robertson, a first-timer who gave an excellent presentation on his great David DeVal Tribute site - http://www.davidde-val.com We then had Stuart Burrell re-enacting Houdini's Weed Tire escape from 2 car tires with snow chains, 20feet of chain and lots of padlocks. Then in a similar vein, an escape from a bicycle wheel and chains. (Hard to explain, but looked impossible) The next subject was Cable Ties and the various ways they can be used as restraints. Dan Robinson showed us an unusual method of escape using his boots(?) and we saw some cable tie restraints used by some UK airlines. I demonstrated a brand new Dial Combination Lock, fresh over from Ian McColl in Australia. Everyone had a play with it, but only one of us (Dan) discovered the secret. We then discussed how it could be used in escapes. We looked at a brand new disposable plastic cuff from Israel next. No key - once locked, it needs cutting off. Nick Jansen demonstrated a great chain escape, which he has performed for overv 30 years. Kondini then talked about his well know Challenge Escape which he has been performing for many years, then demonstrated a unique way of concealing picks etc. At the end of the meeting, Nick Jansen was presented with a trophy commemorating his great contribution to the art of escape. A great get-together, and can't wait until the next one - the 10 year anniversary of the UKEA! |

The De Val talk was amazing and showed just what can be done to educate and promote the Art without being disrespectful of it. Full marks to Andy for the time and effort he put in.
The following will make no sence to those that were not there but I will get the H.C. Working once I get the batteries changed. |
