What would you recommend to read or view about manipulation, but with objects different than the usual (cards, coins, balls, sponges, cd's and may be cigarets), like cell phones, shoes, and anything else you will think.

Thanks

Edward

I have experimented with card boxes. I have a friend who is working on a battery routine. And you could try flashlights. I recommend walking around a large store such as target or Walmart and see what they have that you could manipulate.

There is nothing published using odd items. What you have to do is learn the basics and apply them to what you want to use.

Do a search, there is a kid who some some moves with a cell phone, it is in this section. He posted 2 references to his video demonstrations.

Don't forget about wands, canes, thimbles, candles (with their flames) etc among the 'usual suspects'. You can find many lf these in Louis Gsnson's Routined Manipulations. Somewhere else, I read about manipulating cookies (one of which you can eat)! Good Luck and a big welcome to the Magic Café. Lynn

Thanks to all of you, I'm trying to start a routine about manipulation but I want to give it sense not only start to appear things, and I'm having a little idea about what I will do.

The idea of the flash light is pretty good and now I'm imagining how to make a routine about all the objects I want to use, and make it have some kinda sense different than being on stage and starting to appear cards from the air.

When putting together this type of routine, Bill is correct in saying you use the techniques and adapat them.
Watches, cd's, tooth brushes, etc. have all been used.

As for the structure of the act, look to the Fitzgee Trilogy. It kind of heavy reading but it gives you a lot of good ideas on the type of effects that can be done and the flow of the act or routine.

I really believe that you would be best to learn about manipulation and magic methods first. Then, your eye will perceive everyday objects in a different manor. Many years ago, myself, Petrick and Mia, Dushek, and Bob Little used to go to the housewares and gift trade shows looking for magic. What we would do is find props condusive to magic. But, we used our known principles of magic and viewed things with a magicians eye.
