In my opinion some have been kinda weak as mentioned above, and some have been surprisingly strong. Overall it has been a good experience. I guess by that I mean that I liked more of the effects than not. I've been in for the whole three years and while some effects have been somewhat repetitive, others are very well done.
The instructions have been consistently weak in my opinion. Often not as clear as they could be and occasionally missing a step or two. But again, overall I am very happy with what I have received. In this time of $30 to $40 one-trick DVDs that rehash older effects with just a tweak or two to make it called "updated", the cost of Real Secrets is a bargain! MJE - I'm curious: would you have thought better of the jelly bean effect if they had sent out a bag of jelly beans? Thank you. Jim |

My batting average is about 1/3rd I love, 1/3rd I like or find something interesting in, and 1/3rd don't do anything for me. I'm happy with that breakdown.

Jim-
I think actual jelly beans were what he expected when the ad said "tricks with jelly beans." But I recall his reaction: "Another 'Cracker Jacks' paper puzzle!" Well, I'm glad some people are enjoying it. It did sound like a cool idea for those into that sort of thing. Thanks for responding! Peace, -MJ |

I think it could be a lot better.
Whatever happened to the exclusive items that were going to be for sale. I think there were 2 and one which has 'been on the way' for ever! I do love the idea of the agreement that you will not post items on youtube though.

I have enjoyed this project and will be sorry to see it end. Like J-Mac and magicsquared some effects I have liked better than others but that is to be expected with this type of offering. I have kept each effect in a binder with the props and it is fun to review and pull something out and try someting new for a party etc. Like having a Martin Gardner book with all of the needed props.
For me this will continue to be a useful resource. John |

I'm with John, above. Each issue was very well done, well thought out, creative. And each at a low price. I think it was an excellent venture for putting out creative extrapolations in short runs. If they were running it another year, I'd re-up in a flash.
The range of effects were primarily closeup, or strolling, which is the category that most magicians fit. It was a good run and kudo's to all for even trying it.

The jelly bean trick is awesome! Real jelly beans get sticky, then what throw them away? if kids are there, they want to eat them. If you don't give them the beans you look like a selfish twit. Oh, I know, carry an extra bag of jelly beans. Sheesh.
The jelly bean trick is based on a fantastic trick and it fools people into thinking you are a math whiz. Of course if you have no personality, no magic trick is going to help you MJ. A lot of the Real Secrets items made me think about other ways to use the props. I really enjoyed the three years, totally worth it and really fun. James Quote: On Jun 24, 2014, MJE wrote:

Oh, Xi, I know. That's obvious. And I had nothing to gain or lose, anyway. If people like RS, I'm very happy for them. I knew it wasn't for me, but that doesn't stop curiosity. Hell, I can't even do a proper Faro. It still amazes me! I just found the reaction to RS interesting. People either love or hate it. That may be a good thing for magic in general, I guess. Anything that stimulates intelligent conversation is wonderful, IMHO.
It's not a whole lot unlike the reaction to my pretty innocent question here. Some answered objectively. Great! Then there was a guy who tried his best to be insulting. Ahhhh.....that stopped bothering me a very long time ago. Not that intellegent discussion I mentioned. Oh, well.....it happens. After a half century in this racket, you learn how to weed. The guys who do that are all over this Internet. Nuthin' you can do about it. I've learned to not let them bug me. They hide behide whacky fake names like "squaredcircle" or whatever. Sometimes they are kids playing with Dad's computer; sometimes they are adults who just don't know any better. Sadly, they lack the skills to interact with an actual audience. But that comes with time and work. They will either learn or lose interest. I never looked into the jelly bean puzzle trick. I just found it funny what my pal back in Florida had to say. I'm sure there are people who can make a mystifier out of it, in spite of the questionable ad copy. Magic, auto sales, and real estate seem to be three "peas in a pot," as Stan Laurel would say. I've got my own stuff to do, as I'm sure you do. A commercial gem comes along once in a while. Jeez, Regal has had at LEAST his share!! I certainly wish you all the best in your work and with life in general. Thank you for your note, my friend! Peace! -MJ |

I didn't continue into year three, but the effects were getting stronger at the end of Year 2. Funny thing is the web presence/activity seemed stronger to me year one. I was excited to go online and see what was new.
Don't know what I missed, but I will say there was often more "puzzles" then I would have liked, but there was some great material I got that made up for it.
