I'm trying to come up with a new routine for my sponge bunnies. I have the very nice 3D multiplying rabbits from Goshman and I'm getting the deluxe rabbit that comes with 5 babies. I do a basic sponge bunny routine, usually Papa rabbit hits the big time, some times a 3 sponge ball routine using bunnies. What I don't know is if I should finish with the one large bunny or the babies. I enjoy finishing with the large bunny but then had the idea that the large bunny was a pregnant momma bunny and then turns into all the babies. What do you sponge bunny pros think?

A few examples of the sponge bunny routine. All examples are real.
A cute 5 year old girl with her hair in plaits has two bunnies put in there hand. When they open it the two bunnies are joined by there little babies. As a result of this they freak out and go uhhh that's cute. Every one around them freaks out. A 35 year old secartrie having a bad day has two bunnies put in there hand. When they open it the two bunnies are joined by there little babies. As a result of this they freak out and go uhhh that's cute. Every one around them freaks out. A gang member has two bunnies put in there hand. When they open it the two bunnies are joined by there little babies. As a result of this they freak out and go uhhh that's cute. Every one around them freaks out. A boxer has two bunnies put in there hand. When they open it the two bunnies are joined by there little babies. As a result of this they freak out and go uhhh that's cute. Every one around them freaks out. A manger of a company looking for a magician to do his Christmas party has two bunnies put in there hand. When they open it the two bunnies are joined by there little babies. As a result of this they freak out and go uhhh that's cute. Every one around them freaks out. Turn your magic brain off and have two bunnies put in there hand. When they open it the two bunnies are joined by there little babies. As a result of this they freak out and go uhhh that's cute. Every one around them freaks out. There is not much to follow this. I do use this at a end of a set. What I do more now is let people met the bunnies. We give them names, People have photos took with them. Rember we entertain with magic. But our main goal is to entertain. Sorry if this sounds a bit like I am having a go. But I don't want you to work harder than you have to. Spend the time and engery on getting to know your crowd or working on a new effect.
Enjoy your magic,

Buy two more sets because occasionally one will jump out of your hand and get lost on the floor get kicked across the room and vanish completely AND nothing is funnier then 15 little rabbits appearing.

I've experimented with a double finish. First the babies. Then I sneek the jumbo bunnie from my left pocket into finger palm position. I then say, "hey let's do an experiment. I pick up poppa in my left and momma in my right. I say, " Why don't I put the Momma in your hand and the Poppa in the other person's and or vise versa. (during the patter I skeakily shift the one in my left hand to join the one in my right hand. I hold as though it is a single bunny. I then put the jumbo forward in left hand to give the same appearance as before with one in each hand.
I then say you take poppa (jumbo) and you take momma (2 bunnies). Now on 3 you touch fists and Poppa will jump out of your hand and join momma in the other hand. They do it and reveal Grand Dad in one hand and the couple in the other hand. I don't do this finish very often, as it seems a bit over the top to me. I only do it with ladies who are just in love with the bunnies. I love the previous comment about taking pics with the bunnies. I've seen guests do this with mine as well. I've not encouraged that but maybe I should. Jay is right about making sure that you have an extra set or two on hand. I've had a couple of occasions where I watched kids or adults try to hide one from me to steal one. Now I always count to make sure that I've got all 5 babies and both parents before I walk away. The best I can suggest is to experiment. See what gives you the best reaction. |

Babies are stronger for me, because they allow for some great patter, while displaying and putting the bunnies away. For some, a large rabbit could be stronger - depends on the performer and the presentation.

I would use the babies and agree about buying more. I think he more you produce at the finale the more impressive it is.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

I end with the momma and the babies.
After the kids in the group get to pet the bunnies and then put them back in my hands with the mamma and daddy, I tell the person who just had babies appear in his or her hand that "You might want to wipe your hand on your brother/husband/sister/etc since babies were just born in that hand." It gets a chuckle, ends that group, and lets me go on to the next group. |

A while back a Café member (don't remember who) gave a tip from his sponge ball routine that I use with the bunnies. Take ultra light fishing line and sew it through 6-7 babies, and tie it together creating a loose bunch. Add this to your regular load and you will double the size of your production without worrying about the "extras" falling all over the floor. |

That's one of those WTF...how come I never thought of that!!! Great idea, so simple, so logical, just can't understand why it never occurred to me before. |

The ending with the babies works for me. I always have extra bunnies available and give one away if someone is celebrating a special day.

Actually by taking the baby bunny aspect out of it. It removes the thought of rabbits doing the nasty in someone's hand.
It's not over thinking it is re-thinking.

You don't have to remove the big surprise finish of all the baby bunnies to make the routine non-sexual. Just create a new presentation or presentational hook. I've never used the "adults making babies" theme, and still finish with the "babies". In my routine, grandma and grandpa are so in love they can never be separated for very long, and the babies are all the grandkids that come to visit grandma and grandpa. A magician friend who is a parent and cub scout leader remarked how "kid-friendly" and refreshing the routine was.

When I make the baby bunnies appear in the kids hands I just remark to the adults, "That's why you keep them in separate cages." There's no offence ever taken. Most of the time it's the adults that think of the reprodution happening in their hands and will comment no matter what your patter or theme. Kids tend to just think "baby bunnies!" and their thought process tends to not go to much further. Of course the older a kid is the more aware of such things they are.
Oh, by the way you can get baby bunnies in bulk. I'm not sure if they still carry them, but I got a bag of 60 baby bunnies from Denny and Lee so I could occasionally give away the bunnies or replace those fallen bunnies so I don't have to scrounge on the floor.

I heard from a friend that anecdotal evidence is actually quite reliable. |

If you don't like the reproductive suggestion, or just another way to approach it: You know how some animals seem to have a sixth sense about people? Mom and Dad (or grandma and grandpa) summoned the baby bunnies to join them because they like/trust you.

I use Goshman bunnies and just finish with the bunnies appearing, I have experimented with switching in a jumbo bunny at the end but didn't find that climax to be better than the baby finish, plus the jumbo bunny is a hassle to carry and takes up most of your pocket space.
