I was looking at some posts and came across this advice by Brad Burt.
While it applies to the Penetration Frame effect, it certainly applies to any
of our perfect looking Tenyo's. I have edited the post in order to highlight
what I wanted to share, but put a link at the bottom so you can see his
whole quote and other excellent presentation ideas.

Penetration Frame has always been a favorite trick of mine.

If it has a problem it's that it 'looks' like a 'special' piece of magic apparatus.

Another problem stated above is that it does have the 'feel' of a puzzle more than a magic effect, BUT...that's generally because of the manner in which it is presented! Done without the proper patter set up it remains a kind of puzzle, but if you take the time to set the stage you can end up with a solid little bit of magic.

Here are some ideas that have come from doing the thing for 30+ years on an almost continual basis:

:)#1- Try to disguise it a bit. Take the basic unit and sandpaper the outside plastic armature or painting it to look as if it older or special in some other way.Smile

#2- Next, have it in some manner of 'special' holder. I took a piece of shammy and made a kind of wrap for it. This will tend to impute a greater sense of 'specialness' to the object and thus cause it to be more acceptable.

To pull the routine away from it's puzzle status you need to 'point' the audience in another direction. Best,

Brad, This advice is AWESOME. I love the idea of a an expensive looking velvet wrapping, on a beat up old, scratched, grungy piece of who knows what. That completely changes the visual context of the magic.
Hope you don't mind, but I'm gonna share this advice with my buddies over at the Tenyo forum. Of course they will go nuts at the idea of scratching one of their precious Tenyo's. But, it's so boring over there.
Thanks again, love the idea.

Careful Ed... you are going very close to crossing into Bizarre magic... we may loose you forever Smile

Actually that is great advice. Attended a lecture by Scott McClelland last weekend and he talked about aging or preparing your props to set the mood... makes a big difference. On an older post some examples were highlighted where individuals had enhanced some props including making an eye of the idol look like stone.

Cool! How do you do that? Eye of The Idol would look awesome in stone!

Tenyo Glass Board is a great great trick guys however for me Wonder Window is much more impressive in my opinion, and I'm not very keen on Mystery Triangle if I'm comploetely honest,it is a bit too small for my liking.just my 2 pence. Mirror Mate..

Well, Wonder Window would be a great effect if not for the fact that you have to be lucky to get one that works properly.

I have five Wonder Windows. One works perfectly. A second works most of the time. Three don't work at all.

I prefer Mystery Triangle ... I had no idea how it worked untill I read the manual. The Wonder Window seemed so obvious to me in how it worked when I first saw it performed and I was right ... .

Mystery Triangle is clever but to me the prop looks a little contrived. I like the fact that the "glass" can be removed and be examined in Wonder Window really helps sell it IMO. Perhaps spectators are a little easier to fool in Canada

Time to scuff up those triangles. Make em look like 'old plastic'.
Post pictures of your upgraded (downgraded?) windows and triangles.
Here is mine, notice how I have enhanced it's value. Smile

Put it on my basement concrete floor, where there was some old grey paint I once spilled (but never cleaned up, wife still not happy with me)
Stepped on it and ground it in. Clear plastic is recessed. I have a few other cheap knockoffs so
If you have an idea on other ways I can "distress' the plastic let me know , and I'll try a couple & post the results.

Buy a small can of Red Guard and paint a board with it. When dry, it will scratch the hell out of anything you rub across it--including your flesh.
