I too expected there to be a few reviews out by now. Still on the fence between this and Parapad.

This wallet was a christmas gift to myself. Matthew, its hard to compare annihilation wallet with paralabs parapad (which I also own and like).
If its all about the peek for you to decide: you need to know where you want to use it and what Information you want to peek at. I don't want to sound lecturing with that. One is a great impression pad and the other a great multifunctional wallet (with peek feature, Index, suc feature). Different tools (besides the possibility to secretly gather information) for different situations and applications. Matthew, I hope I can help you if its just about the peek: The parapad peek area is large compared to AW and crystal clear (depending on your spectator management). It can be used for pictures, words, symbols and numbers! Its perfect for stage and close-up. (different sizes available). The annihilation wallet peek is very clever and great for quickly peeking at pictures and symbols. I will not using it for numbers or words (I don't want looking staring at it ). It can be trained to read m****** words and numbers but handwriting makes it hard sometimes so I feel more secure to use other alternatives for that. peek area is small (compared to parapad) but absolute sufficiently to use and practical. I would say half of a business card. (Maybe more when it is worn in) Material and workmanship went into it is really good! but time will tell. The leather is soft and feels great. I guess it must be worn in to allow for a more open "peek window". Because of that, the writing area needs to be controlled for better results. But you can also use the SUC feature for a full business card peek or for words and numbers. For "seemingly impromtu" and close up situations it seems more organic for me to use a wallet (if theres no problem of justifying a card going back into a wallet). I appreciate the SUC and Index. Negative aspects for me: If you are going to use all 6 business card slots it will be difficult to reach the ninth index pocket. Because of dimensions and pockets, the wallet tend to get a bit thick (mine is now 4cm tall without using the playingcard index) but it still fits in all pockets. I really like it and will put it to good use! Instructions are clear and to the point. Thank you Paul! |

I wanted to like this but the peek is just not for me. The quality is great, the index is great, but there is no way I could use the peek. I also think the SUC is only good for loads. Mines up for sale.
Love the rest of Pauls work though, including the Lookout wallet. |

One small hint and added layer of deception which works here very well:
You can prepare half of your business cards with a w****w (see pac stack) You can insert the spectators card right back in the middle of your business card stack! I think this looks more organic because you take all cards out, use one and put all cards back. You can put the stack on a table and follow to say "lets make it more secure". Insert the stack back in the AW pocket and give it to your spectator. You can show half of the business cards to be normal. |

Sean,
Thanks for your honest remarks, I wish this worked for you! Artin, Thanks for your feedback and the Great wi***w idea! Ran Pink gave me the same idea about 4 years ago...I wanted to include it in the instructions but forgot about it! I too have expected to see some more reviews on this...hopefully soon! Best, PC |

I prefer the horizontal format of the annihilation, I like to have an id window, and to have space enough to use it as a everyday wallet of course (this last point is ok with the espionage but it´s still quite limited, you can not put too much thing in it or it becomes too thick). So, about the annihilation I was wondering if the index is "hidden" (like in the heirloom wallet or with a similar process) and if the billfold can be shown empty after taking something that was in the index? This is an important feature for me, a nice convincer that I use when in perform my KK routine (wich I will probably soon replace by "Spoken", I like it ^^). On the espionage I use the shogun feature for that, with a casual delay when I summarize the spectator's decisions (i say something like "oh and yes by the way, this is of course the only card in my wallet, I don't really have space for a full deck!" while showing the clean side of the wallet). |

A review of Paul Carnazzo’s "Annihilation Wallet."
I love Paul’s work and consider him to be a leading thinker in the field of mentalism and mentalism products. However, having said that, I would not hesitate to be critical of one of his products, should that be what is appropriate. Happily, that is not the case with this wallet. I would make one caveat however, which is that I see such a wallet such as a “performance tool”. Certainly, if you wish to make this your everyday wallet, you can. However, to maximize the potential of this (and knowing that my regular wallet is bulging with my everyday stuff as it is), I would be reluctant to jam all of that into a wallet that has so much potential to amaze & entertain. If you look at the description, you will see that this is usable for many excellent opportunities to perform, however, I would definitely produce it as the genuine looking wallet that it is and put in it only enough to make it look even more convincing i.e. Drivers Licence, some bills and a credit card or two. Let me address some of the advertising description. • Perhaps the most deceptive peek ever! Certainly, it has a peek that I had never seen before (although Paul rightly credits a previous creator of something similar). Deceptive? Yes, absolutely. How can a participant be suspicious of your action, when the card remains face down? (or seemingly so) To quote Ted Karmilovich when he saw the peek in action: "When did you get the peek?” Frankly, if it gets past the venerable Mr.K, there is little more to add. However, as with all peeks, practice plays an important part in the performance. • Dedicated “Business Card” slot True. However, as I wrote above, there is no need to pack out such a prop with more cards than you need. • One 9 pocket “billet” sized index The index is very workable. There is also on the accompanying DVD a very clever idea for filling the billet holders for a neat prediction routine. • 8 playing card sized pockets — use as storage or an index Again, use with thought. No need to jam five packet tricks in here. I prefer to think of Kolossal K with miniature cards. Perfect for that. • S.U.C. (Sight Unseen Case) Feature — Approved by Mark Strivings! There are many ways to use this. • Loading slot (loads to a zippered compartment) I don’t perform “card to wallet” and would think that for those who do, this would require practice. However, I do a signed poker chip routine and this is just perfect for that. (Or a signed key or coin) • Zippered compartment is perfect for storing lots of mentalism/magic items I would not use this compartment for storage, but would save it for a routine such as above. Quality? One thing I have come to admire about Paul C, is that he refuses to release any product that doesn't meet his exacting standards (his excellent Lookout is another good example ). So I wasn't surprised that the quality of the leather is first class. Soft, supple and very well made. (sounds like a girl I used to know). Anyway, a lot of thought has gone into this. The only other comparable quality I have seen, is the JOL line of wallets. DVD instructions? Clear and easy to follow. Some very good examples of the wallet potential here. (I especially liked the billet prediction routine). There was a question about how it compares to SAW? Well, whilst I have had the SAW for some time, I've never really felt that it showed like a real wallet should. For example there is little space for bills or drivers licence (the primary function of a wallet). Moreover, the quality of SAW is not in the same league as this. This wallet looks as real as it is. Overall? It’s often said that it’s very useful to have on you, something that allows you to perform impromptu “moments of amazement” as the occasion presents. This wallet is a natural and normal looking wallet for exactly those times. (I also notice that Mr.Carnazzo has just released some super thin credit card sized Zener Cards. I guess you can imagine where they will perfectly fit?).

Thanks for your complete review Gerry!
What about the possibility of (casually) showing the main bill section empty, so hiding the indexes? |
|||||||||
Gerry Hennessey Special user 852 Posts |
Greg
Depending on the size of the billets used, you could show the main bill section empty, but why would you do that? It's supposed to be a real wallet and if handled properly should be beyond suspicion. Hope this helps. Gerry
