What ever color deck comes out the brick next. Never had a spectator ever comment as to; color, contrast, unable to see or or any other anomaly that magicians come up with.

I once asked Irv Tannen, that question as a kid.
He said: "The dye on marked cards is better on Red (1970s) so we make more gaffs on Reds." so they sold more red gaffs and, in turn, more red bicycles to go with them. |

David Devant stated in "Lessons In Conjuring" that one should use Blue backed cards because they blended better with the shadows when you've got "windows" between the fingers and you're palming a card. Of course, he was probably used to working under very different light.

I strangely do prefer red now that I think about it. However I have a whole bunch of unused blue backed bicycle cards to use so I may swich over to blues sometime soon after I make the Rapture gimmick and such for blue backed decks.

I don't remember the author, but in one of the popular card magic books the red backs were recommended because they were "happier" and put the audience in a better mood; he felt the blue backs tended to depress an audience.

I buy by the brick so I just use whatever I feel like. I would say I have a particular preference for red though. No reason, just keeping myself happy.

You will never see The Cardfather, Tony Picasso, sporting anything but the brass of a bandit, the confidence of Alexander the Great, and ice-cool, blue-backed Bikes.

Doesn't really matter but if I were to think about it I guess to me the blue look a bit classier, like they belong to a gentleman. The red seem more like kids stuff or Fisher-Price cards.
But having said that I use red all the time too so in reality I care very little. Been having fun lately ringing in the Extractor gimmick occasionally and since that came in blue box it has made me use blues more now in order to have the option to use it. |

Juan Tamariz prefers red, at least when he's using a green close-up mat, for contrast.

I have to admit, even though I do have red and blue Bikes, I do tend to lean more toward the red, because I feel they show up better and especially against a black sharpie for signed effects, which I do a lot of.
The difficult must become easy, the easy beautiful and the beautiful magical.

Some people do, some people don't.
Hope this helps!

I have noticed, at least around where I live, that people for some reason never trust when I use a blue deck, particularly blue bicycles. I am constantly asked if it is a trick deck, and accused of cheating (more than usual). I use reds now because people seem to accept their not trick cards and is a genuine deck

Since this string started, I started to look, and really notice cards of perfomers.
When using Tally-Hos, Blue is the norm, Bicycles-Red Monarchs-Blue. and that is all in the last two weeks. Interesting. |

I use Reds because one of the tricks I do requires the color. Beyond that, it doesn't matter much to me what color the deck is as long as I can manipulate them.
One time, when I was young, I botched a sleight so bad, Vernon, Marlo & Miller rolled over in their graves. But I didn't see Elmsley, probably because he was behind the others.

For carrying a deck around, I use several different decks and colors. For a real gig, always red Turner bikes. They handle great, show up well against my dark clothes and pad, and if I always use red its easy to keep track of gimmicks and such. (IE, Which dummy card is in my Lighning Box.)

I never really thought about it. I know when I buy the 9 pack cases from costco there always seems to be more reds than blues so when I want to perform with pack I know I'm going to destroy doing folds and what nots I'll just use the reds cause that's what I usually have more of.
