I thought both AKA and Spoken are effects based on Springboard. However, it sounds as though you read the spectator's mind in Spoken rather than they reading your mind, as in an effect such as 'The Knowing' from Springboard.

Hi All
Apologies for not being avaliable as of lately, ive had a few family issues therefore have not been about very much... There is an area on my website for live chat for those that would like to ask me any queations regarding spoken. I will do my very best to answer as much as I can. The chat area is at the bottom of the page here: http://www.52deceptions.co.uk/ This is linked direct to me. this has been a huge project for me, in a few days time I will be opening an area on my website to discuss further handlings, new approaches and ideas based around spoken.... For those that have been out and performed this I hope it has served you well, I use this all the time and it gets great reactions. I have several new ideas which I have been out testing with this concept which I will discuss with those that have purchased spoken in a few days time, including ideas from Michael Murray and a few others. Special thanks to those that have helped with this project. I tried to keep this effect as simple as possible so that it may be performed by all without a confindence issue as not every performer is the same. Some of the new ideas I have been testing out are very bold but really push this to its limits but are not for the meek... Look forward to hearing from some of you. Insight I'm still alive sir.... busy getting ready for a new arrival at home. All the best guys R |

Thanks for getting back to us, Rus. And congratulations on the forthcoming arrival!
I must admit I was sceptical about this effect when I learnt about the writing on the card, and initially the 'cynical old man' in me wondered whether it was merely an out or whether it was something more integral to the performance... However, with Michael Murray, Sean Giles and Alex Alejandro (among others) offering their thoughts, having learnt that using our own creativity allows the effect to be performed without the writing on the card, and having seen that Rus has new ideas regarding the concept, I’m convinced that Spoken is worth purchasing. I'm looking forward to getting it and using it. Rich |

You can buy my one if you like!
I just thought this was a different beast to the Kenton's K.K. It's a bit too close to it but without the humour.

I have taken up the offers of 1KJ, Sean and BMW Guy to provide additional tips for the handling of Spoken. As a result, I have learned a handling using business cards from 1KJ, a method from Sean that eliminates the need for writing on the backs of the cards and from BMW Guy a way to do the effect without a wallet. Thanks to the three of you for helping me find a very workable solution for presenting this effect.

Also want to thank Sean, Alex & 1KJ for the thoughts they've shared via PM. All 3 have ideas that (IMO) make this effect play stronger. In the original effect, I thought that the choice of card was excellent but, like others, thought that the reveal could be improved. Great to see so many people running with this and taking it in interesting new directions, and also looking forward to seeing what new ideas Rus has.
Congrats on the imminent arrival too! |

Thanks guys.
I am sure all the ideas are worthy and make this effect stronger in the eyes of laymen. Why not combine different handlings and see what works best. Thanks to all who have chipped in. Alex

Hey guys!
I bought SPOKEN too, and it's as good as it looked to me. I didn't like the idea of writing on the cards because it felt unnatural, but I guess it depends on the individual performer. The effect has been great for me without it, actually |

I'm experimenting with the idea of a certain kind of determinism in my patter... Any feedback?
~Begin with wallet in full view, without drawing attention to it (of course, I guess you could, but this would make it even more interesting since you're implying that it's important without specifying it) "Do you ever feel as if you're not really in control of your choices? It's not to say that you're being manipulated, or that there's fate, but rather that our choices are just the result of how we've been influenced by advertising, culture, friends, whatever. "Like, for example, if you tell people to think of a card, they tend to go for the easy ones, the common ones: the ace of spades... ~And so on "You can try to catch me out, actually. In fact, could you just think of a card for me... ~Add script ~Note: I don't write behind the prediction card, and it's face down instead of face up so that it adds to the suspense when I remove it from the wallet, in the same way as the invisible deck "So, the point of going all of this is to make your card as random as humanly possible, so even if I knew your original card by whatever means, I'd be off of its scent by now. But what's really incredible is that sometimes people can share influences, can share preferences, even. "So, you've arrived at one card, correct? "Freely chosen, changed a number of times - changed the value, changed the color, changed the suit? "Good. What card is it? ~While opening wallet, taking card out and making it the center of attention: "Sometimes I feel as if it's like some premonition or something, but I can't really explain it - I just don't know how it works. But if I remember correctly, this should be pretty close to it. ~Turn over card. |

Hello All,
I'm just finally getting around to watching this and my thoughts are that this is cool but, not outstanding. I like the thinking behind the effect and will certainly give it a shot. I'll also be sending pm's to those who have thoughts subtleties to enhancing the experience. Even with the effect as is I think I still like it a little better than Kollosal Killer. However, (and obviously this is my personal opinion right now) I kind of like AKA a little better but, that could simply be because I have performed it numerous times and have gotten great reactions from this. Lastly, I would have certainly preferred this to be a download vs. waiting on a dvd since the international shipping delayed my receiving of this fairly significantly. If I had to rate this I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5.

Thanks to 1KJ, Sean and BMW Guy! I received their additional thoughts for a alternative handling of Spoken. The shared ideas are really great and I think I give all versions a shot in the real world. I performed Spoken, like teached in the DVD, many times since I know the principle and I got very strong reactions so far. But I can´t wait to road-test the other handlings too, because I think the reveal could be improved with the solutions found by the three named gentleman above. Thanks again for sharing your ideas. I very much appreciate that!

I saw the ad for this in Genii magazine. As soon as I saw it I thought, "cool someone had made an even better version of KK"
Looks like not really from the few of the 18 pages I skimmed through in this thread. I think KK is awesome and the 'sometimes' writing does not really weaken the effect, although I am not sure it strengthens it as Kenton says. How is this effect any different or an improvement from KK? Joe |
