I don't know, but didn't they perform at different eras? When Channing Pollock left show business, he had nothing to do with it for years. As the story goes, he would not even talk about magic. Only the few television appearances and award shows he attended late in his life. He gave his entire act to his cab driver, Franklin, in Europe. Franklin actually did Channing's act for years. They must have been about the same build and height, as Channing gave his formal tails suit to Franklin.

I was at a convention and took a picture of Fred Kaps and Dai Vernon together sharing thoughts. It was cool seeing them together.

One of the best sources for info on Channing Pollock is by talking to Lance Burton or Jeff McBride. They were both very very good friends with Channing and new him until the day he passed on. You could contact Jeff via his website of you are just dieing to know.

I very much doubt that Cardini had his picture taken with Channing Pollock. As Cardini grew older he grew more and more paranoid of magician that were ripping him off.(with good reason. after cardini became famous everyone started wearing tails, and doing cigarette and card manipulation.) Now I don't personally believe that Channing copied Cardini, but in John Fisher's book Cardini the Suave Deceiver, it's documented that Cardini(or at least Swan) believed that Channing Pollock was a Cardini copyist. And Cardini HATED copyists. Hence my doubt that a picture was ever taken.

Being Neil Foster taught Channing Pollack at the Chavez School of Magic, I doubt that he got the tails from Cardini. Ben Chavez wore tails in most of his publicity photos for the school. Tails have always been the symbol for a magician. Mandrake in the comics wore tails. John Booth also performed in tails from his photos in his books.

Like I said, I don't think Channing copied Cardini, but Cardini seems to have.

Yes, I was supporting your hypotheses.

Cardini thought everyone copied him - it is as if he invented everything in the world of manipulation.

I would guess that Swan or Cardini or both thought that anyone who did card fan productions was a "Cardini copyist," which would include a lot of great card manipulators as well like Paul LePaul, Neil Foster, etc. If it's true that Cardini "invented" split fan productions when he was serving in The Great War during the winter wearing gloves while practicing single productions, then he may have had a point. But Channing did not copy the Cardini persona of an inebriated gentlemen, and certainly his dove work was not a copy of anything that Cardini did.

And of course, Channing Pollock has had his own fair share of copyists in the form of dove workers--possibly even more copyists than Cardini, owing in no small part to Channing's appearances in movies and on TV.
