Thanks for the link. Now I just have to track down that copy of Genii, or wait for Richard Kaufman to publish the Magicana book!

Pchosse is right, I just learned about Mr. Ron Bauer, and I must say he rocks. The mechincal deck is one of my fav. routines now, and the double lift in it is wonderful.
If you guys want to see a really crazy and easy triumph, check out his manuscript called "fair and sloppy". its great. But the double I use the most is the float double. you let the double slide down your deck to the right into the right hand to turn over. The most important thing to do is to make your singles and doubles the same! that's the only way to make a double invisible. Tony C. |

Snap Double
Derek Dingle's Double Lift (i don't care what this one is called, but its the one blaine uses) Standard Double Lift (the one found in Mark Wilson's Cyclopedia of Magic) The Standard DL (as I call it) is very easy, but you can't display it so long. you still have to do it subtly, or MORE subtly. |

When Rafael Benatar showed it to me, he told me that Ascanio always said that he would like himself to create this double because it´s great for the Ascanio Spread. So Ascanio loved this double, but he didn´t invented it. So my mistake, because I understood it was Ascanio´s double, and the right answer is that it is Stuart Gordon´s one. So let´s give the credits to his owner Stuart Gordon. Anyway, that´s a great a beautiful double lift. Thanks Rafael for teaching this one to me. All the best magic, Pablo Tejero

I'm using double push off at the moment. However, one problem I've encountered is that people can sometimes spot out there are 2 cards instead of one when they watch very closely. I don't know if it is the way I hold the cards. how can I improve on this and not letting people to find out I'm holding 2 cards?

If it's a DL Turnover I may use Daley's "Instantaneous DL" from Stars of Magic.
I also use one used by Bert Allerton where the turnover is done with the index and middle fingers, from the front edge, end for end. Here's one you may like. I use this when there's no turnover, just a lift. I haven't seen this published. It should appear that you are simply sliding the top card forward with your fingers. * In left hand hold the deck for dealing but somewhat firm. Thumb on one side and fingers on the other. * Fingers of your other hand rest on top of the deck. * Engage two top cards with your right thumbnail. * With nail, push the two cards forward about an inch. Here is where it should look like your fingers are pushing a card forward. * Shift left thumb the tip a bit over the left, outer corner. * Shift left, 1st finger under the outjogged card and push up lightly. This is the fulcrum of a lever move. * Let the 2 cards release from left fingers. (Because of the initial, somewhat firm grip the cards should be "locked" and aligned.) You should now have a gap on three sides, between the 2 face down cards and the deck. You can now do a simple DL or do a DL Turnover. Triples are OK too. Enjoy. |

Absolutely everything in the known universe that there is to learn, ask or read about double lifts is contained in the topic:
The Magic Café Forum Index » » Pick a card...any card » » Please read this thread before posting about Double Lifts!! » » TOPIC IS LOCKED! That's why it's at the top of the "Pick a card" forum and titled "Please read this thread." |

The hit DL is the same as the Strike DL and it's also the same as Derek Dingle's DL.

I don't know what kind I use. I just started double lifting one day...and then worked on perfecting that.

I just use my two hands to catch a break under the two cards. And then use the paintbrush kindof movement when lifting it. I pretty much only use it for the ambitous card. But I have invented I don't know how many tricks using a double lift. Just play around with it and if you have imagination, you will figure out some pretty cool tricks. If you don't know how to do the ambitious card, then I suggest you learn how. It is one of the best tricks out there.

Quote: The DL that Pablo is referring to by Stuart Gordon is beautifully explained in "Invisible Palm Aces #6", which is found on pg.186 & 187 in "Jennings '67. It is the perfect follow up to Harry Lorayne's DL as explained in his book "Classic Card Magic Of Harry Lorayne", which BTW was the first method that I learned back in late '60s. I still instinctively use it even after learning the hit/srike DL. The turnover is beautiful and natural, if it is done correctly.

I use Derek Dingle`s push-off double lift with a slight varation. Very convincing.
Daryl also shows some very good double lifts in his encyclopedia of card sleights. |
