Hi Barry! Thanks for info (MAGICANA). I don't remember Charlie using a thread hookup. --Although, it's entirely possible that he did! (He could be--to quote Don Alan--"PRETTY SNEAKY"! I only saw him use the 2 "hooks" method. I remember that when we first met in the Castle bar, he used the "hooks". Charlie, Conrad Haden and Harry Schilling and I had a wonderful (entire afternoon) session in Wichita about 40 years ago.
I never cared for his Mutilated Parasol, but his Baker Rice Bowl routine --WOW! Sorry, I, too am totally ignorant about Dom Paolino! Jay Marshall told me of Duninger's chutzpah!!! (He must have had one of those "Dollar Ingersoll" watches!) Yr's, 'til the thread breaks! Dick

Hi Dick,
The invisible thread I mentioned was just a presentation. Charlie used the two hooks method, but talked about stretching an invisible thread between two spectators. They held the thread and it made the pencil go up and down. The thread "broke" and Charlie pretended to tie it and then when he ran the pencil along the "invisible thread" it bumped when it hit the knot. Using this presentation made the pencil trick a stand-up trick rather than a close up trick. I agree about the Parasol. I think Charlie got this presentation from Danny Dew and it too may be written up in an old Magicana. I never saw Danny perform (I did talk on the phone to him a couple of times.) but I have heard he was very entertaining. I met Charlie once and had a nice talk with him about apparatus magic. Getting back to the "thread" of this topic, I would like to know if any readers ever saw Tommy Martin's wine glass production? Regards, Barry |

Barry! Ha! thank you. Now, I remember the thread "gag". I THINK he does it on the video tape that Joe Stevens put out. I no longer have that tape, so can't check.
Thanks again for reminding me! I've looked at some of the links noted above. I still prefer using the Devil Hank! (no b**y loads)
