I'm curious. I perform close up effects such as that's it, 2 card monte, and scotch and soda, but what would I be called? Would I be called a close up magician or a close up illusionist? Sorry if this seems like a useless topic but I'm really curious as to which one I would be. Also, is there a difference between a close up magician and a close up illusionist? If so, what is it?

I would go with magician as illusionist is more for the bigger illusions.

I once did a show for our church, and the pastor insisted that I be advertised as an "illusionist" because a sizable contingent in the congregation would be offended by the idea of having a "magician" in church.
James Lewis opens his performance on his "Million Dollar Mysteries" video by saying that he's going to perform an illusion, with a half-dollar. In short, call yourself what you will. |

I am neither a magician or an illusionist.
I am an entertainer that uses magic as a vehicle.

An Illusionist is usually a stage magician. I would use magician for close-up.

A close-up illusionist only gives the appearance of doing close-up. Whereas the magician, actually does it. |

You are a close-up conjurer.
Next time be a close-up reader so will put the post in the right thread. |

Call yourself whatever you like, your audience will think of you as a magician and the stuff you do as "tricks", regardless of whatever title you apply. Ain't nothing wrong with being a guy who does card tricks...
Call yourself an undergound magician if you like, that one's very popular at present. AW

Adding to Pete Biro's list of dumb titles, Jay Sankey some years back came up with the ridiculous (even for him) and utterly pointless "creative fictionist".
As an example of how effective that was, look at all the people using it today! |

I know a lot of people using "creative fictionist" today, but all of them are politicians.
