Hey everyone! In another thread Rodney Palmer directed me to the Fender Passport Executive system. I purchased a couple units and they arrived today. I threw up a quick video review that you can find here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tCDg7tRGpY&feature=youtu.be I also decided to put on a spiffy new suit for the video! Let me know what you think! |

Matthew, you could always plug your Shure PGX wireless into the (Mic in) input for a second wireless on one system. I've sold quite a few of these to performers that wanted a higher quality system that they could carry on a plane. They all have really liked it. Nice job on the video but the audio really doesn't do the system justice. You have to hear it live to appreciate it.
That suit is stylin'. |

Thanks Eldon!
Agreed that the video doesn't do the system's audio justice. I thought about plugging my Shure PGX in as a secondary microphone. The thing is that I have it permanently mounted in a portable rack! :-\ I don't feel like undoing it. I almost bought another PGX, but for about the same money I could have another whole executive. I decided that if I was going to deal with cord spaghetti anyway that I'd rather have the extra audio power for music! Thanks for the compliment on my suit! |

Just a quick update... I've now used these for several birthday parties and three school assemblies! They're fantastic. I'm getting great, crystal clear sound all the way in the back of the gym. Also plenty of volume for music.
I give these systems my highest recommendation. |

Just took this for another school assembly today. 700 students in one show! It was insane with crazy high energy. These puppies did the job just fine though! I'm really impressed.
Here's a picture of the set before the kids came in... |

Hey Batman, Enjoyed the video!
Does the mini XLR have this sort of triangular configuration? (It is not exactly like a regular XLR, but has three holes arranged in a triangle.) Click here to view attached image.
Wonder is very necessary in life. When we're little kids, we're filled with wonder for the world - it's fascinating and miraculous. A lot of people lose that. They become cynical and jaded, especially in modern day society. Magic renews that wonder.

It's actually a 4-pin connector. There are 3-pin and 4-pin mini-xlr connectors. This is the 4-pin variant.
I took some pictures for you. (BTW, I'm still just as happy with this system!) |

Thank you, Matthew! I can do this connector style! I have a Country Man style over-one-ear mic that has assorted connectors that screw off and on. The sound is wonderful and no one can tell it from my Shure. I got this one at a place called Kingdom, which sells sound stuff mostly to churches.
I usually use this mic at formal venues when I use their system, but want my own mic. The mics that go over two ears and behind my head tangle up in my braids something awful.

I have a Countryman mic as well! I like it, but save it for bigger events too. The Mini-XLR connector is pretty standard amongst every Shure wireless system I've seen, so finding replacement mics shouldn't be a huge deal.
I know you do a lot of outdoor gigs. My recommendation is to turn off the bass boost and turn up the tone knob. In my experience that's given me better performance outside. It's a great little system! |

Is this system battery operated? If yes, then how long does it last?
|

No battery, unfortunately! Someone on the Café mentioned you could make any sound system run off a car battery with a pure sine converter. I wish I could remember who they were so I could point you in their direction! If you're reading this, please post details!

I like how the backdrop curves in above. What backdrop is that?

Thanks for the review! Why did you choose this system over the Fender Passport out of curiosity.

@Joey Evans,
It is a Fender Passport (executive) I actually believe that I am the one who turned Matthew on to this system as it is one of the BEST in my opinion and comes with a Case, Microphone with Quality the same as a Countryman E6. And you can add a Corded Microphone to this as well. Also my Music is played through this and has separate Sound Controls. It is a GREAT System, yes it is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. Rodney

Has anyone who owns the Passport Executive replaced the microphone it came with?
I have a Shure WH30XLR headset. I bought the adapter cable that converts the XLR to TA4F to plug into the Passport Executive's transmitter. I get absolutely no sound through it. I've turned the gain all the way up on the transmitter, and also turned the microphone volume up all the way on the Passport Executive. I still don't get any sound. When I use the mic that came with the unit it picks up my voice with no problem. I'm looking to replace the mic included with the unit for one that is a little more high end and doesn't pick up my breathing as much. If anyone else has done this and is happy with the results I'd be very interested to know what microphone you used. Thanks for your help. Tony |
