Yeah, it happens and the experience was great. I really love it, pics here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/set=a......4&type=3
Will write a little about what I did: So I start with some weapons to stop them, a whistle, an oversized top hat, I settled upon a high point and started doing Fiber Optics without saying nothing, just keep doing it and whistling when the magic happened. At the same time I was gesturing for them to come closer, with this the crowd formed almost instantaneously, it was very easy, about 30 persons in a minute without saying a word. Finish the rope routine, introduced myself, organized them a bit, some jokes and start torn a newspaper, every time I tore the paper they shouted ''oooooo'' , ''aaaaaa'' '' yeah'' it's something I saw Sergio Barros do, then end with paper over head of the kid, the torn part was great, it really helps attract more people, educate them to applaude, scream but I didn't do well the paper ball over the head.I'll eliminate this phase or do something else I have in mind. Then I remember that I had not prepared the gypsy thread effect, something I wanted to do with a kid, so I improvised and the true is I'm not very good at improvise. I did some color changes and ambitious card routine, but nothing great, it was ok, and I finish this with a balloon dog for the kid. Next is the cups but before that I said, first we will attract more people, and I stuck them to applaud and shout very loudly and several times with jokes in between, they love it. Start with cups , at the middle the hat lines, did some flashes, but they enjoyed it. You can see there reactions on the pics. So my idea now is start the same way with fiber optics, works very well, do the gypsy thread with the same presentation I did with newspaper, each piece of thread they shout ''ooooo'' ''aaaaaa'' ''yeahhh'' I lick the ends of the thread and this guy(an adult) will lick too, bring a volunteer (a kid) and he do the magic. Second option at this point it's do the same with the newspaper but instead of paper ball over head I say something like'' do you know that trick where magicians torn a newspaper and then restore it? It's a stupid trick, you deserve better( and I throw it to the air). Then end with cups and balls. How it looks?

Helder, your link does not work.
1) fiber optics 2) newspaper or hindu thread 3) cups and balls why do you want to do the hindy thread? with fiber optics you just show them how to restore a rope and do all kinds of tricks. then you do hindu thread which is basically a restoration of a thing tiny rope. so what is this hindy thread adding what makes this a better piece then your fiber optics? get a birds eye view of your show. build build build. |

I tried it yesterday but the newspaper works better, more visual. Still learning, 1000 more shows and it will start become good. Lol Thanks for the comments Helder

Helder go to youtube and look for streetperformers. NO MAGICIANS !!! and see how they build an edge. don't use magic to get a crowd use personality. they have to come for you not your tricks. so many things to do. streetchalk to make a circle. add parking places for peole with bicycles (not playing cards)
you want an audience first the do the show. it is ok to a wand vanish (flipstick) to make them curious about what you will do. if you use tricks to get an crowd then they see only the finale (c & B). if you have a crowd the do the show they see fiber optics - newspaper - c&b. much more show so more chances to get some decent money. 3 things make a street show: 1) get a crowd 2) do a show 3) get paid if you want to be an author you have to learn 1) the alphabet 2) learn to write 3) write a book it is hard to write abook if you do't know the alphabet. same on the street. educate on how YOU get a crowd. most important HAVE FUN! |

Helder, bring a camcorder or cell phone with video recording to your next scene. Have someone record you. Review the recordings at home. It will help you see what you need to improve.

Great go!
The idea with a camcorder is great, but can be a bit demanding at times. Record your show with sound only, in your pocket. It helps a lot. You will hear what worked and what didn't. Moving pictures are great, but can sometimes interupt with the flow because your audience is aware of them beeing filmed. Film is by far the best method, but when nothing is at hand - audio is good. /Ark

Yes, it does do good. I did bring my own camcorder and tripod to one of my locations. I do not record every performance, just a few. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yl9TdvSi8Sc
I bring a camera to my scene also. Certain members had no confidence in me as I was starting off with busking a few years ago. I brought the camera to prove to certain members I knew what I was doing. I handed it to a spectator that I feel most comfortable with before I started. Here are photos of one of my acts a spectator took pictures of me with my own camera: http://s38.photobucket.com/user/Dynamike......3&page=1 You will notice the first pictures are the start because few laypersons were there. Later the crowd got bigger and bigger. On page #2 you will also notice the the laypersons from the beginning stayed to the end. |

Mike, serious question (I am NOT doubting you just want to know your definition) both the vids say FESTIVAL. So were you working the fest? Or were you hatting the crowds? The first I don't consider busking if you're getting paid by the festival. But that's just my opinion.

You are right. "That is just YOUR opinion".

Ha ha! As a general rule the only opinions that people are interested in are their own!
