I received my unit as well and spent some time playing with it. Overall, I like it a lot, despite some significant issues related to the angle limitations.
Pros
Cons
After some experimentation, I found that the effect is at its best if seen at approx. 4 feet. Less than that, the effect is still working BUT a perceptual problem of deepness (inside the box) occurs... At 8 feet or more, I found it more difficult to adjust the box to the perfect height / angle. And as you are more likely to perform to one person only, it would be suspicious to take such a distance IMO... Simon |

I was holding back on commenting on this new effect until I thought carefully about what I would say.
I'm very grateful to collector Andy Martin for introducing me to Magic Wagon early on...early enough that I've been able to attain a very nice collection of these magical jewels before they caught on with the magic cognoscenti. Not a complete collection by any stretch... as I've only purchased the ones where I felt the plot suited my style... but a collection I feel lucky to have. As I've seen this wonderful company mature and build higher quality and more mysterious and marvelous creations with each new effort, I keep wondering how they will continue to grow. And with each effect they continue to show me how they'll do it. They not only improve their mastery of material selection and production, but also their careful selection of effects and methods. They began by producing relatively simple micro-magic... extremely well-made... but nothing mind blowing. And have matured into a company that is taking risks and becoming a one-of-a-kind magic icon that will most definitely leave their mark in the magic history books. Their initial effects were mostly cards, boxes and other trinkets that were beautiful to handle, but not intricate in working. Yet their latest offerings are mechanical gems, with every nuanced action engineered to perfection. Does this studied detail to mere props make great magic? No. It will always be the magician who makes magic. But this incredible care to creating the palette we paint on will always be appreciated. And with that, I believe that The Pencil Without a Middle takes Magic Wagon to another level. Is it the best Magic Wagon effect to date? No. But it is absolutely stunning magic to witness in an intimate setting between a performer and a handful of spectators...simply put, a miniature miracle. The construction of the piece and the intricacies involved are mind-blowing considering the ease of use. This is as easy as a magic set trick to perform, yet the optics involved will fool yourself in a mirror. The pencil really looks "gone," and you can pass anything behind the box and it will show through the opening. This is worth the price of admission just to fool yourself. Long story short...Magic Wagon took a chance by producing a pure parlor effect...with limited angles and audience size. Not an easy risk to take. Just like when they ventured into electronic effects, or mag****c dice effects... they are pushing themselves to the next level. And they may not always succeed. This is not a versatile effect, or a "worker" by any stretch. But I love it for its ability to transcend reality...even for just a small group of people in an intimate setting. And again, I can't wait to see what this company has planned for us next.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Got the package... 3 or 4 days to reach me! Amazing...
Great item, I don't regret my purchase at all... Loving it! Completely different comparte to the tenyo trick, but as everyone says here, it's angle proof. And I believe the illusions is beautiful! So enjoy! |
