Some old problems persist. You are rushing the moves and you need to give time for audiences to appreciate what has happened.
There are mismatches between your body movements and the music style. Personally I feel your ending is a bit random and the impact isn't enough. |

Absolute, thanks. This was made in very small time. But what matters to me is the reactions, and they were good. There were 2 circus pros ''judging'' the acts, and everything they said was very positive, one of the judges was a magician.

Hello RJH,
You have some of the same problems that I had when I started out with my manip act and don't worry it is the same as a lot of other magicians, the thing is to sort them out now before the "habit" sets in. They are: More eye contact with the audience and smile Slow down and pace the act out better The act does not match the music style and the next time you do stage manipulation, get them to turn the music up a bit. You need some what I call "pause and react" moments to give the audience time to react to what they have seen. Try not to turn away from the audience. Overall I can see that the skill is there but you are performing for the audience and not to yourself which can be the result of performing infront of a mirror at home -don't ! All the best with your act and I hope I have not been too harsh, as I have said it is better to iron out the common faults now. Stuart.

I agree with everything you have said. I will practise more performing in the future. And, you are not too harsh. Thanks Stuart, great to get tips from the British Magical Champion of Stage Manipulation 2007! I have a new routine coming up, it will be card manipulation act with no body steals and no stage messing up and it will be much more simpler and easier.

Good overall.
You did not turn your body far enough to the left to hide the left hand coming up to make the steal. It was not fast enough as well. What ever you were doing with the right hand should help misdirect or cover for the left hand. What you did was good, but just not enough of a turn and quick enough. Yes, you still have the problem of just doing moves for your enjoyment. You are suppose to be showing and entertaining the audience. You did not wait while the audience clapped or acknowledge their applauding response, unless the clapping was put in for the video. You really need to work on showmanship, if you are to be liked by your audience. I suggest you read "Magic and Showmanship" by Henning Nelms. There are paperbacks and PDF available online. |

I need to work on my steals and showmanship, I know. The clapping was live. Thanks Bill
