Obviously I prefere CC also because them are wrote in italian, and with a lot of good pictures. It's very difficulty to find some good book about card magic in italian better than CC.

Before than Giobbi wrote CC, your books Mr. Lorayne was a good choice, now your books (like others books) IMHO are outdated by CC.

Paragon, you wrote:

"So I will grab TCC 4 with CC 1 & 2 and Tarbell course 1. Man, I am changing it, still. I am waiting for my money ( hopefully I will have them this week ). Looking forward for my magic books.
Guys, thank's."

If you do that, and truly master all of the material in those books, I think you'll end up a far better card man, not to mention overall magician, for having done so. I think you have made excellent choices there. Kudos!

Mago_Silver: Welcome to these forums!

Harry Lorayne: Allow me to add my personal, public thanks for your many invaluable contributions to the art of magic. I also appreciate the way you make yourself available to other magicians to communicate with. I am embarking on a journey of trying to read (and digest) all of your magic books, as well as every issue of Apocalypse.

But Kenn - all my books are outdated according to Mago_Silver. I don't know, really - the more I "hang out" here the more laughs I get! Mostly from the vast knowledge that's tossed around.

No, sorry, Mago_Silver, I don't - don't think there are any in Italian - that I know of! But why? Why would you want them when they're outdated by CC. Suggestion - stick to CC.

Mr. Lorayne:

I obviously disagree with Mago_Silver about that. Having read some of both, I think both your books and Roberto's are excellent. To me, they serve different purposes. Roberto seems to be trying to take readers from the complete beginning stages to a knowledge of virtually every sleight in card magic, with many variations on each. They are truly encyclopedic in nature, with some good tricks thrown in along the way.

Your books, on the other hand, strike me as compilations of really great tricks. To be sure, you teach sleights as well, and with excellence. It's just that with your books, the focus seems to be more on the tricks, with the sleights there to serve as the means to an end. With Giobbi's books, the focus seems to be more on the sleights themselves, the tricks serving as the means to the end of learning the sleights. It is almost as if the two of you simply take different approaches to teaching card magic. Some people will inevitably prefer one over the other. I for one continue to believe that interested people should study both and decide for themselves. That being said, if someone simply did not have the time and money to study both, I would recommend your books without hesitation.

At any rate, it is definitely my opinion that both you and Giobbi deserve recognition as the most important living writers in card magic. Frankly, since Card Magic is one of the three things in life I am most passionate about, and since I feel your works are as important as they are, I consider it an honor to even have the opportunity to communicate with you. Your name belongs on a list with Erdnase (whomever he really was), Hugard, and Braue.

Thanks for the kind words, CardStudent - they're appreciated. And yes, actual effects, routines, are usually uppermost in my mind, and I'll think of one of those and in order make it work I need to use a specific sleight, and of course, need to teach that also. But, I don't know if it's bad or good, but my mind works both ways. A few examples - I came up with my HaLo Cut and then devised quite a few effects and routines based on it. Same with my Ultra Move, Spread Control, The Lorayne Force, Universal Reversal - come to mind instantly. Again, thanks for the kind words.

Why? Because I find CC the best to learn and improve my technic of manipulate the cards, but I like your care to present the card trick. But it's very difficult to understand it in english - my knowledge about english - as you can see - is below zero!

I'm excited to see that your books are in ebook format Mr. Lorayne. I love card magic and have been on the fence about which of the classics to buy first. I've been torn between RRTCM, Card College and your books. I like the fact that you say you lean toward effects while teaching the necessary skills to be successful for that trick. This ebook format also makes your books affordable to schmucks like me that are hobbyists aspiring to be more. I'm looking forward to purchasing T.C.C. vol 1 at the next available opportunity- hopefully around the first of next month.

Thanks to everyone for the great, useful information in this thread.
