Hi magicians,
I scrutinized the video over and over looking for clues as to possible means to achieve the bend.--- I am, after all, an inventor so this should be a cake walk First Thoughts: 1. IS it a single heat-sensitive paper clip? I might have said "yes" but the ad states: "Compatible with all common paper clip sizes" so that seems to rule out the gimmick being a singular item that you would switch out. 2. IT Perhaps? that seemed like a good "HOW TO DO IT" candidate because the ad states: "Fully controlled timing, pace and shape" (note: the terms "pace" and "timing" are redundant but...I do the same thing when I write ad-copy: say the same thing 2 different ways or present a concept more than once...chuckle chuckle ) Maybe IT, but then I experimented and I can't imagine any IT r**l having enought torque to pull even the thinnest of paper clip metal into the positions shown. Any substance used to attach the IT would have to have super-glue like properties to keep things attached. I guess you could loop the IT. Super glue could set up in 30 seconds but....Nah, don't think so. I, at least, would come back to the table with my hands stuck to my pants or shoe or face... You could loop in 30 seconds but it really takes a LOT of force to move a paperclip as shown--- I didn't think it would take a lot of force until I tried it. I tried it with even tiny paper clips and it just doesn't seem likely IT is the method. 3. Magnetic attraction? Hmmm...a magnet strong enough to acheive that level of metal movement might also pull my silver fillings out of my mouth...risky...probably not magnets. (Note to self: would a "watch my teeth jump out of my head!" illusion go over okay? You could only perform it a few times but WOW, what a memorable performance! Wonder if Acar or anyone could be persuaded to do my Demo?) 4. Pre-bend the metal for 30 seconds over and over to create a "metal memory" position the metal would return to slowly? The only thing I was able to achieve was to break paper clips. (Note to self: learn the perfect number of back and forth bends it takes to bring a paper clip to a "breaking point" with just one exhaled breath so that I can casually hold up a paper clip, blow on it and have it split in two with one half falling into a spectators hand and name the illusiion: "BAD BREATH"...think I got a winner here that I could license to Listerene or Scope for use in commercials: Camera slowly pans in on a beautiful model or handsome actor while the announcer asks: "is your Breath THIS BAD?...while actor or model blows on staple and it breaks in two!) 5. I uh...I ummmm...okay, I got nothing, I can't figure this out. I'm with Firestarter on this one: "If it does what it does in the demo and the ad is correct. 100% with that". (PLEASE Mr. Lindenfeld, let this be as good as it seems to be!) This looks incredible. The Rasmus Coin Bend Fire Starter referred to, Casshan's Melting Point, Loki's FAX, Mr. Cushman's Tear, Christians OVERKILL and several other impossible things have come fast and furious lately. What a great great year for magic |

My problem with it is that it looks much more like a science demo than anything magical.
I think people would say "neat" and then move on. It's just not that impressive looking. |

No disrespect to anyone, but the only reviews I'd be interested in are from those that actually perform metal bending. A hobbyist that performed this for his wife/kid/cafeteria friends and reports that they love or hate it, would be meaningless to me. When it gets released, if I have the dough, I'll get it and decide for myself, no matter what the early reviews are. |

That seems like very wise thinking Zombie. Ustaad, too, thinks along those lines:

But for me, I am just SO intrigued with having to know how it's done I just have to have it so I can know. I can't figure this one out...it's driving me crazy! I sure don't want to pay $45, just to wish I hadn't, and then have regrets thinking of where the money could have gone, but...this time I think I am willing to pay for the answer to the unsolvable riddle whatever the answer might be. That's the inventor side taking over, definitely not the business side. I love the reviews of Café members but reviewers most likely aren't going to reveal the secret even if they don't like what the secret turns out to be. I just HAVE to know the secret. I could have never hosted the old Television Show: "I've got a secret" cause I would have quickly gone broke paying the contestants to tell me what the freaking secret was before the cameras even warmed up or the audience was fully seated. I hope, for the creator's sake, you will love "Self Bending Paper Clip". Whatever you report, it will be honest and of value. |

Looks nothing like a science demo to me
if you know the method I will defer to you sounds like you are guessing to me though I will await reviews

I agree with Ustaad's point of view:this reminds me of a small spring I bought made by flexinol.
like Ustaad says , this little spring is activated by a small amount of temperature and it moves exactly in the same way of the paperclip. it goes back to the original shape. the main issue it is weak enough and a switch is necessary. best |

All I want from reviews is this:
a) an idea of the person's experience b) in what scenario was it performed (paid gig/bar/friends/etc) c) how many times they have performed it d) fair, even handed, non-revealing of the methods/techniques
I've asked to be banned

The problem with the flexinol theory is the ad copy which basically indicates temperature change is not a factor.
I'm also not sure even a $45 price tag could cover the cost of mass production of both a paperclip using that technology and the DVD. I'm leaning toward a very low tech method. |

Murphy's got in touch yesterday and are sending me out a demo unit to test. Once I receive it I'll post up my thoughts. I think Menny is a genius and his products are always great quality, (from what I've bought of his in the past) so I've no doubt that this will be the same. We shall see! DC
