This effect is something that both Michael and I are extremely proud of. Whilst things have been ticking over quite slowly in the "ebook" section of the Café, I am pleased to hear more and more positive comments.

To clarify what I have shared with others prior to purchase. "Once Removed" is a take on the "think-a-card" principle. I always loved the idea of revealing a mere thought of card, but never found a methodology that really suited me. The traditional route of limiting a spectators' thought to one of several pre-determined cards always left me jaded, why not allow a truly free choice? So after a flash of inspiration one day, I found myself with a half-baked method rattling around in my head. One sunny Sunday, I shared my idea with my good friend Michael Murray, and within a matter of hours we had managed to flesh out a bare bones idea. The following months saw us develop this into what is now known as "Once Removed".

In the manuscript, we teach the full workings of this routine. I make no bones about this, the effect utilises a full deck stack. You will be taught Michael's preferred stack, my preferred stack, and the methodology for creating your own, if you so wish. The stack is indeed a one trick pony, it allows you to perform "Once Removed" and that's it. Whilst I realise I'm biased, I have had such strong reactions from "Once Removed" that I honestly believe it worth carrying a deck setup, ready to close with this.

I fully endorse what Titanas has written - Once Removed is a very detailed manuscript with all aspects of the effect fully discussed. A huge amount of thought, effort and preparation has gone into this and for those interested in this type of effect, Once Removed is both essential and fascinating reading.

Both Stephen and Michael can be really proud of what they have released and shared with us.

I remember Steve doing this on me just before a John Carey lecture, a few months ago. At the time he was still fine tuning it as he was not 100% happy with it.

I guess if you come up with a method to do a thought of card revelation, but sense that it needs a golden touch, who better to brainstorm with than Michael Murray.

There's and old saying, " two heads are better than one"( and if there isn't, it sounds good so I had to say it).The finished product proves this saying, as what you have in this pdf is a very workable revelation of a thought of card.

I am good friends with both lads, but they know that if I think something is rubbish, I say so. The flip side to this, is that if a product is sound and can be used for paid performances ie. it will fool people & ENTERTAIN them,then it gets my highest recomendation.This release ticks both boxes for me.

I don't know these guys but I like how they didn't skirt around the fact that the trick uses a "stacked deck". That earns my respect - rather than the trend of not even telling people what the effect is, having friends hype it then pre-orders.

The Mac, Thank You. I have been quite candid when sharing details with people that this is an effect I am extremely proud of. Of course, releasing it naturally brings financial gain, but I swear that this is not our primary motive. We truly wish to see people get as strong a reaction with this as we have. Anyone with an honest and genuine question as to whether this effect suits them will be given my full attention, nothing will be held back. I know this will not be for everyone, and having been stung in the past, I would hate to create a misleading sales ad that promises purchasers a miracle, and then under-delivers. I honestly believe that the strength of "Once Removed" will speak for itself.

I want to express my thoughts on this ebook that I purchased recently.

I wasnt sure whether to purchase or not, but really everything that I have purchased by Michael has been great, plus bring in the creative talents of Stephen, plus my favorite plot, Think-A-Card, and well I took the plunge.

Once Removed is a collaboration betweeen Michael Murray and Stephen Shaw.

You receive an ebook immediately after ordering, and it is a 16 page pdf.

I first read it, and thought there was a lot of info to sink in.

But I started to go through it again, and I realized the method employed here is genious, and something that will fly by magicians and laymen alike.

I prefer Stephens handling on the pdf, since you get two ways to do the effect, one by Michael, and one by Stephen.

I have also added a few ruses to the effect which I will write up and send to Stephen. For those that like, please send me a PM with proof of purchase and I will share, with Stephens permission of course.

I plan to add this immediately to my repertoire, and something I can see myself doing lots.

Think a card plot has just gotten better, and there are numerous handlings in the ebook that allow you to do this in the hands, or hands off, and nail the card the spectator is thinking of.

I was lucky enough to snag a review copy of 'Once Removed'. I've read it through several times, but not had time to 'do the work' and perform the effect. Anyway, here are my initial thoughts and a few comparisons to other 'think a card' effects:

This is a very clean and effective way to learn what card a participant is thinking of.

The participant has a completely free choice of card, there is no force or verbal limiting of the selection.

There is some procedure, but it is well justified within the routine and it can all take place in the participant's hands.

It does require some memory work, but the ebook contains all you will need to create your own arrangement that makes sense to you - as with any memorisation, customising the information into a format that suits your own mind makes committing the thing to memory a LOT easier.

So my first impressions are very good. But this is based on a read-through only, I'm probably a few weeks away from performing it for real.

They have no possible methods to workout....its great and beginning to be one of my go to effects.

After several people drew comparisons between Once Removed and the work of the great Richard Osterlind, I decided to send a copy for his perusal. Richard was instrumental in me having become interested in mentalism so many years ago, and it was a great honour to hear him speak about my work. I'm still quite in awe that someone who's work I respected so highly would take the time to comment on something I had created. I think it is a testament to our industry that the "big boys" are still so readily accessible, and willing to help newcomers. Anyway, Richard gave me his full permission to share this quote. "After being in this business for so many years, I can pretty much tell when I see something that is just a pipe dream or when it has been well thought out, over a long period of time and actually used. Once Removed is the latter. The manuscript clearly shows a lot of work and love has gone into this effect.

Once Removed is a very clever way of learning a thought of card. Stephen Shaw and Michael Murray have compiled their ideas on the process giving the reader a number of options in how to perform this effect. My favorite is the very last one in the book.

The nucleus of Once Removed comes from the original Paul Fox Miracle Gimmick, but the effect is quite different. A person simply looks through the deck to spot a thought-of card, then its mate, and you know the cards! There is a bit of questioning, but even here Steve and Mike have made it all make sense so that it’s not apparent. I like the book because it gives you so many options.

This concept will require a bit of work on your part to understand, but it is well worth learning. If you are into clever new ideas, get this."
