Hi there TY,
Robert probably has and maybe that's why he told you to do that. I just looked at it again and some bits look better. On your small part where you list what tricks you do there is a line that says "What's icluded in Ty's set" It should say "What's included", the included is spelled wrong. I"m no web site expert, but you really need to fix that line up ASAP. If you can't spell or write too well, then it's fine to get others to help you. I live in Taiwan and often have my friends help me with my Chinese. JoJo

VZ: How about you read it? Hey I don't say have someone else read it to be critical or imply that we don't want to help out. But I do know from ample experience that as good as I think my projects are, I always have someone else read it. And they find dozens of mistakes. And after I correct those, I have someone ELSE read it. I always have two or three different people read my stuff to be sure I catch as much as possible. Different brains catch different mistakes. Thanks Robert. I'll get my parents to read it over and some of my friends. I'll be sure to fix it up as quick as I can!
************* I fixed some of the problems and got rid of the stupid picture of me hahaha. There are so many people that are asking me if I could do a show for their brother or sister! It's great. I think you guys have really helped me out.

Hi Ty,
I checked again and it reads better now. Good for changing it. You don't want parents checking your site and thinking that maybe you have flunked school and are moonlighting as a magician. HA! Have you ever checked out any of the other magic brothers' sites yet? Andy Walker is a good web friend of mine. His site is very good as far as having all of the info that any potential customer would need to know in only one page. I'm impressed! http://www.magicparty.co.nz/ Check it out! JoJo

I also agree that Andy has a nice site and you can get some good ideas from it. I just finished working with Andy on a new postcard design project. he certainly has the right ideas regarding marketing his magic.

Very impressive. Amazing how it's only one page. He really knows how to market his product in good fashon.

Hi Ty,
Glad you had a chance to check it out. Can I make another suggestion for you web site? I hope so. If I was you I'd put your picture back in there instead of the thing you put in there. It may look cool to young guys starting out in computers, but to mothers who might want to book your show....they might not be too enthusiastic about that. Try to get a good digital shot of yourself wearing your spiffy costume. If not the other one looked fine for me. It's got a good smile at least. Maybe your thinking that your friends don't like the old pic, but they are not going to be hiring you for their parties. Go for it young man! JoJo

Yes, Jojo is right. You do want to brand yourself and your magic in some way. This can either be done with a logo or through the use of a photo as Jojo explained above.

Yeah, I don't have a digital camera but I have a scanner. I'll scan my graduation picture in. Thanks for the suggestion! The piture was me being an idiot at the mall with a couple of friends LoL. I'm sure a normal picture of me would come across better.

You must always be conscious of the image you are presenting of yourself to the marketplace and the people that may be visiting your site. you always want to present yourself in the best light possible. Be professional at all times.

Well let's see. I like your website man, but you still are only charging $25 dollars. The first time I made a hundred bucks from a half an hour of doing magic I was stunned, amazed, and just a little guilty. I actually donated the money to a good cause, lol....I felt just slightly fraudulent, I mean jeez here is this kid doing magic tricks for all this money.
I have since matured. You need to raise your fee! When you get to the part of your website where you say, all this is for just $25, frankly it sounds like a Joke! Either work for free, or work for decent money! And hey, it's not the greatest money in the world but for us high school students it's pretty *** good! So go do a show, charge $75-100, and if anyone complains that a friend of yours charges the same fee, but lives in a country where the average daily wage is $7-10 US, and no one complains. Then enjoy your money! Go buy your girlfriend a present! Speaking of which, Robert Bloor says don't let the buisness of Magic ruin your teenager years. I say it's better than siting around getting stupid all day, most of us will get some kind of job anyhow. That being said, Steven Youell says don't replace social skills with magic skills. However, enhance your social skills with magic, make it cool! Good luck. |

I'm charging $25.00 because I haven't done that many shows but my show is great. I just need some more experience. If I charge $25.00 for a decent show performed by somebody roughly starting out, then people will think that it's a good price. Just a thought.
My teenage years right now are great and I've got dozens of good friends! Especially since I'm in high school, and magic NEVER replaces my social skills. I never do magic tricks one after the other and never get to know the person, that's just crazy.

I agree in the fact that you should raise your fee. As long as you are providing a quality show to them that is good and professional, then age should not factor in as the only reason to have the fee so low.
You are providing a service to them that is benefiting them by meeting their needs for that event. Because of this, you should get paid accordingly. $25.00 is just too little for what your offering to them. Let them know they are getting quality services by giving them a show and a fee that also shows quality. You could easily get $75.00 for a quality 45 min. performance. Kyle

I'm a little leery about raising my price because I'm scared people might think that it's too much money just for their child's birthday party, and their probably spending more on the show than the gifts. If I did change my price, do you think my buisness would increase?

Only one way to find out. Take action and see for yourself. I just know that most any place $25.00 for a full magic show that is entertaining and meets their needs, is way way underselling yourself.
I am not trying to tell you what to do by any means, just offering advice as I have been where you are when I started doing shows at age 15. I now charge $150.00 for my 45-1 hour show and I get it easily with no questions asked. Part of that is my reputation and the fact that I truly believe in myself, my show and my worth. I make sure they realize they are getting the best kid's magician in the area and that no one else offers to solve their direct needs better then I can myself. Once they see the benefits of my show to meet their needs, they have no problems with the money and often tip me on top of my normal fee. But, you must first believe in yourself and the show you have to offer others. Kyle

People get what they pay for! I'd say if they compared you to another magician in the area, and saw the prices as being you-$25, other guy-$150...most people would choose the other guy! At least if they have any knowlege of profesional entertainers.
That's simply how much magicians cost. If you don't think you are worth more money, your clients won't think you're worth it at all. So again, either charge nothing at all (which is much different than charging a little bit) or charge a decent price! Start at $75-100 dollars. That's just not really very much money! I think not only will your buisness improve, but it will become more profesional. |

Okay, well I've thought about it and I figure my show's quality will be higher because I'll be getting some good material for Christmas in a couple of days.
The length of my show is about 30-40 minutes and I figure I should charge 35 dollars. I also changed the picture on my web site.

Vanished:
40 mins of really good material is perfect for any kid show. I still think $35 is still very much underselling yourself and your skills. You have to have self worth and value if you want others to value your services as well. May I ask what other magicians charge in your area? What do DJ's charge? If you can find out this information, this will give you a general idea of what the fees are in your area for entertainment services. Kyle
