Actually, you do have a brand whether you want it or not ("brand" is simply the image of you that your customers and prospects hold). The decision for any of us is whether you wish to influence the brand's direction or not. Large companies mostly choose to take the divers seat but sometimes very small companies create their "brand" simply by how they act and the quality of the product and don't even think about it.

I am a simple birthday party and corporate entertainer as most of us are. I think the brand and image building has its place, but in this context not for a family performer.

I find this very interesting and really incorrect. I've always contended that this is the mentality of many magicians and kids/family performers. It simply isn't true and all levels of performers can and should be concerned with image, positioning or branding, as if you do not take charge and control this it will be done for you by your potential clients and/or your competitors.

It's always amazed me how consumer-level performers seem to think that when other professionals here discuss this and other types of business-related issues they somehow seem to justify that it doesn't pertain to them. It doesn't matter if you are a headlining, touring performer working theaters, a corporate entertainer, someone who specializes in school, or a kid party entertainer, it is all the same. Image, perception, positioning and professionalism applies to all types of entertainers on all levels, and customers of all types and levels all have the same interests, concerns, reservations and perceptions.

I think this is the main foundational problem with many performers. what I don't get is why they would think their market or type of performance would be exempt.

Mindpro,

I totally agree with you that promotional material needs to be top notch in any market. Photos need to show who you are and that you're not a creep (which is huge in the kid show market), copy needs to draw the reader in and make them see why you're the right choice and you even need video to show a bit of what to expect and how the audience responds.

The point I was trying to get across is that the website that is the subject of this thread should be more focused on the buyer and how the magician can help the buyer.

I think we were going for the same point, just in different ways.

Or he is super busy, or he doesn't live on the Café like a few of us! lol

Sorry.........Yes I have been working a lot. No I do appreciate all the feed back I'm getting about my site.
That's why I posted here. I really need to do an over haul and make it sell. I've learned a lot about marketing in the last 9 years and I know it needs improved. Thank you to everyone that has responded. I appreciate the comments and welcome others.
