I use bikes the most because often gaffed cards ie hover card are made in bike.
Tally ho finishes seem slightly more fine...more durable. Bee for manipulation. |

Bykes are so dominant in my area, I fear other back designs could be a distraction. Besides I use the farmchas marking system (Marked for Life) that employs Bykes and flies by everyone.

I've never had a badly cut T-H deck, I lost count of how many awful Bicycle decks I've had. As otherwise noted, T-H's faro easier, I suspect because of a different cutting process--the two decks are cut using different techniques (one is called congress press, IIRC, not sure the other), or so I've been told on more than one occasion.
I also just find they handle better in general. I will only use Bicycles if I don't have a choice. --A P.S.-I use a PC, but will use a Mac when it's the right tool for the job ;o) P.P.S.-I hope somebody actually got that joke, or I might have to start a red vs. blue back thread!

Before we start panicking, I believe Adam's talking $8.95 AUS, not $8.95 US. Am I right? Austrailian currency is in dollars, too, but the Austrailian dollar has a lower value than the US dollar.

Tally Hos!
I pay about $5.55 CDN per pack of Tally Hos and man is it worth it. Them thangs last!!! I got my first two packs nearly 3 weeks ago and have used the ish outta them, yet still they refuse to get worn out! Tally Ho cards are very slick and just handle much better than Bikes and Bees. I now only use Tally's and Bees (for magic and gambling demos respectively). Take care, Bobby.

My philosophy: Tally Ho's are for practise, bikes are for performance.
On a similar note, before I was into magic very much I bought a few packs of cards. They were only red backed and had a strage back design with a dolphin in the middle. Now that I look at them again(yes I have kept them all these years) they seem to be just as good as Tally Ho's, but the price tag reads "$1.50", therefore being 2 bucks cheaper than Tally Ho cards. Does anyone have any idea where I can find these? And what brand are they? Jakks |

Tally Ho are my cup of tea. Of course, I love the idea to use them to practice and using Bycicle for performance because as it has been said a the majority of gaffs and gimmicks are done for Bycicle poker size.

If anyone has never heard or seen any one of these cards, a good site where you can see their faces and backs is http://www.kardwell.com/tally-ho.htm . They have pictures of a very large selection of brands. No info on thir coating/cut/stiffness though.

At my beginning of card magic, I even hold a deck of bicycle cards when I sleep, and not my girl!
I even did it sometimes after I did some practice about card shuffle and false cuts on bed before I sleep. By the way, I just order Tally Ho's and I hope that it won't have the same feeling as Bee's since I just do not like to use Bees. In my country Bees are just cards for real gambling.

Funny story.
A friend of mine has a teenage son (senior in high school). I am doing a few tricks for some friends and the teen comes and joins us. As he is watching me, he blurts out: "Hey -- that's a trick deck. I've seen those before." Now why would he say that? The reason is that he has a friend that does tricks with a gaffed deck (R&S) and they happen to have Bicycle backs. In other words, in his limited experience with cards, he has only seen Bicycle backs on "trick" decks. So whenever he sees Bicycle backs, he assumes it's a trick deck. Imagine the enjoyment I had when I handed him the deck and asked him to show me what was so "tricked out" with my deck of cards. He went through the deck, very slowly, looking closely at each card, turning them over in his hands. Satisfied it was a normal deck, he handed it back to me, shrugging. "Just a regular deck of cards," I said, smiling. Jim |

Does no one use Bee cards? I play poker twice a week with some serious buggers and that's all they play with - so I started using them for most of my card routines. I've never had anyone suggest they were gaffed and the quality is great! I recently picked up a few dozen decks from Drug Mart for $1.39 each....the manager said he needed to clear them out because they don't sell well!

I use Bee cards for most of my gambling effects. They are a great help with seconds, centers and bottoms.

Bee cards are the best for me to play games such as poker but for magic personally i prefer bicicle because its easier for me to control. Tally ho is pretty good tho

Tally Hos are in my opinion one of the, if not, the absolut best deck of cards available. They last longer, are stiffer, don't crimp as easy as biciycle do and have a nice bakc design, but this latter point is a matter of taste.
If I were you I would change to Tallys. Cheers Tobelli |

HI everybody!
I think the advantage of Bicycles is that you can find a lot of special decks or cards for magic that come with a bicycle design. On the other hand Tally Hos are great because you can bend the corner of one card and then bend it back and it goes back to normal just as new. While with bikes it stays a bit bended. Also, talking about bikes, I’ve noticed differences between the different kinds. For example, In Quito where I live, sometimes is difficult to find riders so I have had to buy seconds a few times, and they definitely don’t last as much. About faros... Just yesterday I was practicing them with bicycle riders and after a few shuffles the cards started loosing their normal shape. I think I’ll try the faros with Tally Hos next time thanks to everybody’s advice on this forum! Best regards from Ecuador, Giovanni. |
