I have 3 rabbits now. My first is a 6 and a half year old female mini lop. She is and has always been the sweetest rabbit one could ever ask for. Never needed to get spaded.
My next bunny, is a 3 year old Netherland female. I got her as young as one can get a bunny. She too was sweet as can be until she went into heat. She wanted to bite me anytime I tried to hold her. After a trip to the vet and she got spaded, she too turned back into her sweet self. Now my almost 6 month old female Lionheaded bunny, now too is a biter. She too started out as sweet as can be. Well it looks like I will be paying the vet a visit again. 2 out of 3. How many of you, needed to get your female bunny spaded, because of them turning into a little demon? |

Chris, I only had one Netherland Dwarf doe , and that was enough for me. I bought her thinking she was a buck. My regular breeder did not have any Netherland babies so she recommended another breeder to me. The problem was, she was new at it and she mistakenly sold me a doe as a buck. I knew something was different about this bunny, and when I figured out that she was a doe it all made sense. Anyway, she was the last (and only) Netherland Dwarf doe I have ever had. I prefer bucks all the way!

I only ever had one female rabbit in my life. I never got her spayed, but I treated her like a pet rattlesnake. Boys are so much easier, aren't they?

Never had to Spay...... But you can be glad you have, here is why,,, I have heard from my vet that you cut the odds of Cancer of her organs by doing this and give them a much longer life span....

I have heard this about does so have only had bucks. Buster is as sweet as they come and loves attention from kids at my shows. However, I was surprised at the 6-year life span for the mini-lop in the post above. I was under the impression the life span was much shorter than that.

Sorry to kidnap post here but yes Richard all is well in Tulsa Oklahoma. THank you very much for checking in on us, some of our Moore Oklahoma magicians were not so lucky, most are healthy, some have lost some props, and a few homes of fellow magi are lost, but all our friends are healthy, I have spoken with mike miller and he has extended the SAM endowment funds for help with any of our friends in need. So not only are Oklahomans stepping in to help big time but many organizations such as the SAM. A great feeling of magic Family,,, sorry guys,,, now back to rabbits,, gotta love em, and if you have a rabbit you need Richards livestock bag prod in your arsenal.

Well I have my appointment with my vet next week. It took about another 4 weeks for my Netherland to really tame down. Now she is almost as sweet as my Mini Lop, who never needed to be spaded.
On another topic, I'm into my 3rd. year getting a USDA license to have bunnies in my magic show. I've received my license but I have been waiting for over a month to have my inspection. |

Well, I had my little Lionhead bunny spaded today. The vet said her reproductive organs were inflamed, proving that her hormones were running wild.
She said she should be back to normal in 4 weeks. I'll keep you posted, especially if you have a female bunny or are planning on getting one, and you run into the same problem. |

It's been 8 days since she has been spayed, and there is already a BIG change in my bunny. I have a show tomorrow, and I could and would use her if I didn't already have 2 other bunnies, with no fear of her biting anyone.
