If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

For those of you who read The Wall Street Journal., one of the most important parts of the brand and banner logo is the period at the end. It's been there since the first edition hit the streets in NYC, Vol. 1 No. 1, Monday, July 8, 1889. Check it out, it's still there.
What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

There are numerous stories as to how the period got there. The easiest to understand is that some printer probably missed it as a typographical error and when discovered in print it was too late to change. Founders Charles Dow and Edward Jones liked it and let it stand. This is entirely possible since I was personally involved in a situation when the Wall Street Journal opened in Europe, it was meant to be a one-sectioned newspaper. But due to production limitations in the printing plant producing the paper some last minute changes were made to make it a two-sectioned paper, which proved to be a better medium for advertising purposes. Sometimes luck precedes intent.
Another story goes that when the founders were debating the banner for the paper, the third partner, Charles Bergstresser who most folks today never heard of, had a differing opinion on the banner and Dow, or Jones said, something like, "Enough is enough, it's The Wall Street Journal, period!"
