I always pay to perform. $5 and you also have to buy 2 drinks and you can do anything you want: mentalism, dove act, etc. How do you guys get them to pay you to perform?

Hi Jim, It is against Café rules to post exposure of methods outside of the restricted forum. It is fine to post speculation on these threads if you do not own the effect in question, but as you do seem to be in possession of it, your post above counts as exposure. It would be good if you could contact the mods and ask for your exposing post to be amended. Regards, Martin. |

Hi Folks. I just clicked the 'send button' on an update email to our customers, but thought I would post it here too:
I wanted to contact you to give you an update on the UK release of Inexplicable. The delivery was due to arrive for release on the 1st July, but was delayed by UK Customs and Excise. I have been tracking the progress of the delivery and calling Parcel Force on a daily basis to try to speed things up. I called Parcel Force this morning and was told that the delivery has now cleared customs. The delivery is traveling down to the magic shop through today. We will be able to collect the delivery from their solent depot tomorrow. (I asked if we could collect it today from customs directly, but apparently that's not allowed. Tracking Progress: 08-07-2013 06:45 International Hub Forwarded for UK processing 08-07-2013 06:10 International Hub Revised charges to be paid 07-07-2013 17:09 International Hub Awaiting Customs Charging 03-07-2013 11:30 International Hub Awaiting Customs clearance 03-07-2013 11:29 International Hub Awaiting Customs clearance 03-07-2013 11:18 International Hub Received in destination country 28-06-2013 03:55 Delivery Agent - SAN FRANCISCO Forwarded for export 28-06-2013 03:54 Delivery Agent - SAN FRANCISCO Forwarded for export 27-06-2013 10:42 Delivery Agent - UNITED STATES AMERICA Collected from customer If you would like to keep an eye on the delivery yourself, you can see the progress of the package at http://www.parcelforce.co.uk Tracking number EC067415565GB So, according to Parcel Force, we will be able to collect the delivery tomorrow morning. We will post to everyone what ordered, the same day by first class delivery. We should have an additional few hundred copies in stock at the shop as well, so should be no delay with same day dispatch moving forward http://www.magicshop.co.uk/p142301/Inexp......nfo.html

No problem! PM me the address and I'll get on it right now!
I also wanted to say a quick thank you to everyone who sent me supportive pm's and emails. I hate it when delays happen with orders and I was quite touched by how supportive everyone has been. Cheers! Dom

Bats, it's very tempting, but I don't think our household budget could handle two compulsive magic buyers.

For example, Cameron Francis is not only magician but an actor. Therefore Cameron is getting paid from two separate professions. I really don't think Cameron is a hobbyist. Second example, myself, I have a steady day job but have a contract to perform on a local boat touring cruise biweekly. I would have never got the chance to interview for the job if I was a hobbyist. If I did not have the marketing tools that professionals use I would not have made it through the door. Further- doing gigs for larger corporations such as Heinz- I would never have got those gigs if I didn't consider myself a professional and have the tools a professional uses. IMO, if you are getting paid for performing- you better consider yourself a professional as I am sure companies and potential clients would rather hire a professional. Though, all in all, whether a hobbyist or a professional one thing is for certain- the love of magic is in your blood! Good Magic To All!!! RNK

Being a professional is no mark on quality, the two things aren't always linked
I received this today from Penguin delivered free to the UK I do not like it at first glance, I'll give it a go, the reasons I purchased this I feel a little cheated on I'm not sure what kind of envelopes steve shufton uses but this doesn't match my non gimmicked envelopes in real life I'll try it out to be fair!

It was merely stating a difference in what Zombie stated with regards to money determining ones status as a hobbyist or professional. Nothing to do with quality. I am certain there are many skilled hobbyist that perform better than professionals. it's either a case of 1) the hobbyist chooses not to pursue a profession in magic or 2) they never fall into the right opportunity. As far as the envelope, you can show both ends after the reveal. My wife is the hardest critic in the world and she made no mention of the envelope when I performed it for her. I actually really like this style of the envelope, it has that slick look to it! RNK

I just got mine today and really don't understand all the hoop-la. If you think that pure magic exists, you might need a check-up to be in this business. What made the Greats what they were was they did what they did very well. Seems like most of the people doing magic today need to get a gut check.
"The New York Papers," Mark Twain once said,"have long known that no large question is ever really settled until I have been consulted; it is the way they feel about it, and they show it by always sending to me when they get uneasy. "

Just because I think "audience management" is a copout doesn't mean others would, or should. Thanks, worth keeping in mind. I am curious though. How would one go about practicing a trick like this without using an audience for that part? Do you just repeat the patter lines and imagine the response you want? That's a serious question, I'm not trying to be argumentative. Lord knows there are plenty of tricks (especially in mentalism) that rely on audience management to one degree or another. |

My way of practicing these audience management effects is jus trying them out on friends. They are my first audience. If it works then I know it will in real life. If they can point out a flaw the first try, then I have to work on them some more, but I test them on them first. Then I try them on one spectator and see if it works... if it works great, if it doesn't on some point of the trick I think it through after the performance and make the necessary adjustments in my mental schematic.
