Quick re-cap.....The last time I engaged the family the young man quickly grabbed something from my hand. That's when I made the comment " Well I guess I'm finished here" went into the office, got a gift card and addressed the mother ONLY saying "We appreciate your business, here is a gift card for you". I then walked away and went to another table...... Haven't seen them since. :dancing: Also in regards to mentioning the antics to the MGR. No.. they have enough to worry about and don't need the added grief. I handled it never showing anger, and always respectful. I try and accommodate everyone to try and make their experience enjoyable. If the customers don't cooperate I'll SMILE and hope they have a nice dinner and a nice day. and LEAVE.. I did however mentioned the behavior to the waitress in casual conversation, just in case "the family" said something. Thus the reason for the gift card. How could they complain when they got a gift from the magician?

If I can chime in for 2 cents worth...
I think one of the keys to this kind of situation is speaking to the kids, and treating them, as adults. "Hey, what's your name again? You would think I know it by now." "Why are you wearing that shirt?!" "No, seriously, what's your name?" Maybe mom answers? "Mom, can I have a heart to heart with Chris for a second? Chris, I'm going to be honest with you. You guys come in every week and spend a fair amount of money here. Everyone in this restaurant likes you. But sometimes, I think you don't like me. Is that true? Because, if you don't, I can leave you alone when you come in. What do you think?" Now, granted, that's not exactly how I speak to adults, lol, but hopefully you get what I'm saying. I give them the choice. If he says he did like me, I'd offer him a high-five and then teach him a magic trick- pen behind the ear or something- and every time they come in (if he's still rowdy), I'd say, "Hey, my favourite magician's here! Show me your trick again!" watch, thank, and leave.

I just thought of something I have done in the past.
I've handed the kids one of my magic shop cards and told them they reminded me of myself when I was their age SO maybe your parents can buy you a magic set and the next time you come in, you can show me a few tricks. One time they did and I stood there watching the student perform the Penetration Frame. So I brought the situation to a head by recommending they have the young man take private lessons at 75 an hour. Needless to say, they continued to eat at the restaurant but never again asked me to come back to their table. They would beg- off by saying the little tyke was still practicing. I didn't alienate anyone and my helpful attitude painted them in a corner that avoided future conflict. Hope that helps. Or as they say "keep your friends close and your enemas closer".
