There's a new Dan Lavender figure up for sale on oiBay selling for three grand
(the item nmber is 151051406674). What gets me is the cost for shipping: a whopping $659.34 to ship it overseas to my location. The shipping cost is listed as the UPS Worldwide Saver price. Saver? Who's saving? Now, I know who's making money on this. Is there anybody on this forum who would actually be willing to shell out that much money for shipping? Fonsy PS I'm selling a figure for a total cost that is less than that shipping amount. . |

I saw that figure, you made me go back and look at it, and I saw 34. shipping, but then I remember you live outside the U.S. and I clicked on the country list and saw what you're saying. That is crazy.
I know high shipping has stopped me many times in the past from buying something. The most recent example: I was interested in one of those walking puppets there was a thread about here, but the shipping is 134. (plus they charge for using PayPal) which just seems like way too much to me and why I decided not to get one.

I have no idea what USPS service they'd be using as the most I've paid for postage for a full sized figure from the States to Australia has been US$80.00 and as fantastic as Dan Lavender figures are in my opinion I think the eBay Seller is asking too much I could buy a new one for that. (just my opinion).

UPS (United Parcel Service) is private, not the same as USPS.
I wish people would just stop using UPS. If they charged any more, it would be cheaper to fly to Las Vegas from Asia and pick up the figure in person. |

United Parcel Service was known as UPS before the United States Postal Service adopted its present name in the 1970's. It's going to be real hard to get people to stop saying UPS, without an official name change, because it's pretty ingrained.

UPS wanted nearly $700.00 to send a figure to the Philippines which was much more than the cost of the figure.
The USPS was only around $80.00 |

I have the same problema with shipping charges, I live on the Sppanish island of Mallorca which is only 132 miles from Barcelona, you get things shipped to Barcelona and then have a further charge from Barcelona to Mallorca. It makes shipping costs most times prohibitive.
By failing to prepare, we are preparing to fail.

Generally speaking, I've always found Fedex the cheapest way to go within the U.S. for most packages, while USPS is still the way to go for very small items or books, etc.

Whhops! They've changed it again - 1.00 starting bid with a 2200. buy-it-now price.
Anyway, back to the shipping topic: while some charge too much for shipping, my usual problem is not guesstimating enough. An example just today - I had a lot of 17 Simon Sez dolls for sale on ebay, I had it set for 25. shipping - actual cost - 44.04 - ouch! I'm usually not that far under, and sometimes I manage to charge enough, sometimes enough to have a couple bucks left over to help offset the paypal fee, but usually I get bit for a few bucks.

It's worse shipping from Asia to the US.
I mailed a figure to Texas last year. The cost was over $125 for Express Shipping. The same figure traveling from Texas to here would ship for about $80 or $85. I actually miss being able to use the US post office. It's all a matter of perspective! |

The Lavender figure also changed their overseas shipping charges. It's now ...
Shipping: $113.50 International Priority Shipping I guess the seller heard us! The figure looks a lot more appealing now. |
