I got an email on a Wed. afternoon asking if I was available on Thursday evening (the next night) and what my rate would be for 3 hours of close-up magic on a boat cruise with three other magicians. I had worked for this agent before and knew it was legit. After hammering out the fee, and assuring them that I would not duplicate any effects the other magi would do, we clinched the deal.
The four of us arrived prior to the boat sailing and got acquainted. We talked about the effects we were going too perform, etc. The agent was there and gave all of us our checks and said goodbye and have fun. We all had the same story about being contacted the day before and negotiating the fee. The man running the event told us we would start performing after dinner and he would get us. That was at 7:30pm. 8:30pm, no call, 9pm, no call, 9:30pm, no call. We started to get worried, the boat was docking at 10:30pm. Finally at 10pm, we were asked to perform as the guest left the boat (about 15 minutes of magic). So we all got paid have a 3 hour boat ride, see a fire works show and get some cold left over food. Oh and yes the check did clear.
