Howdy!
I am building an old man 'slot-jawed' dummy. It will be sculpted, molded, and then cast in a rigid material. Then mechanized, painted and haired.. It needs to be done by the end of June. I will post progress pictures and reports through out. Any questions, comments, thoughts or advice is encouraged and appreciated! Here is day 1 - as you can see, I AM ALREADY ALMOST FINISHED!!! Just kidding. More pics to follow! Damien Click here to view attached image. |

That's impressive. You need to go to FACE OFF reality TV show in SyFy.

Gosh, I wish I could sculpt like that!
Unfortunately, my finished projects end up looking like the Day 1 photo? Where did you learn to sculpt? |

Hi all!
Wow - Thanks for the comments! Your kind words mean a lot to me.. especially from the artists here that have inspired me with THEIR incredible work. In regards to where I learned to sculpt - I have been a Special Effects make-up Artist/Lab Technician for film and television for several years. I started that journey as a student of the godfather of Special Effects Make-up, Dick Smith. (For the curious - you can see a partial resume with some of the shows that I have worked on at the link below) http://puppetsandgore.myprosell.com/resume/ Anyways, the most time consuming part of sculpting is doing the detail work.. every pore and wrinkle is sculpted in one at a time.. Here is some of the detailing put into the sculpt.. I think one more day and it will be ready to mold. Stay tuned.. and thanks again for looking/commenting! He looks wonderful!
He has a look about him that I think everyone that sees him will say "He reminds me of someone". Great job! |

Thanks James!
I am a huge fan of your work, so your approval means a lot! It's weird that you would mention that he has a 'I know someone like that' familiarity to him.. I just found out something very interesting along those lines - it turns out that this sculpt looks almost identical to the father of the person who originally commissioned it.. The strange thing is I have never met him (cue twilight zone music!).. Oh well -I won't start getting really freaked out until he starts telling me to clean up my workshop - haha. Anyways, the mold is about two thirds done.. I will finish it tomorrow and carry on with the process. Thanks for looking! More pics soon! Damien |

Hey folks,
It's been a long time since posting about this.. I was unable to post pictures for a while due to being away from my computer. Here is the project updates.. The first pic here is of the casting from the mold.. The finished project changed slightly to involve animatronics and a second character! I ended up working for over 300 hours to get everything done. THis making puppets is a lot of work Damien Click here to view attached image. |

Here is the hands for the old man character.
They are made out of foam latex and they have armature wire embedded so that they are pose-able. Click here to view attached image. |
