Is the outcome always going to be a red backed card in a blue deck or vice a versa ? The reason I ask is someone said its similar to The Chosen by Tony Chris and if it will have say an X on a card sometimes etc then it's not for me as just sold The Chosen as do not like the spread of the cards in a tight tight fan . Like the idea of a non R and S brainwave but want to be sure of the reveals . Thanks guys for any info , pm me if necessary

Would love a non R and S Brainwave deck but after watching the full demo I can easily see what's going on here . May fool lay people but not even convincing in the demo that he is showing more than half the deck . Ok with the tight fan gets away with it to a degree but as I already own effects like Gobsmacked it's easy to work out IMO .

Fooling lay people is the bottom line. That's what it's all about.
A lot of times we are guilty (you've heard it before) of thinking like a magician. If we can see things through a lay persion's eyes, it can be quite beneficial. I really like this effect from Marcus, but I like "Open" a tad more.

Kind of different in effect, but I think it's a bit stronger. I've been working on it for a few weeks. Took me a while to get the hang of it, had to do a lot of tweaking, but I pretty much got it down pat. The illusion is devious and undetectable. No way they would suspect the actual method.

Review of ODD by Marcus Eddie
Here's the routine for ODD that I use for strolling: The magician spreads a complete deck of 52 cards face-up between his hands and explains that one card is different from the rest. The spectator is asked to use her intuition and answer three questions about this special card. What is its color -- red or black? What is its suit? What is its value? Suppose the spectator intuits that the special card is red, a diamond and a five. The magician says her performance is impressive. He thumbs through the face-up deck again and finds the Five of Diamonds, which he outjogs. He now turns the remaining cards face down and thumbs through them, showing that their backs are blue. Finally he turns over the Five of Diamonds and shows that, in contrast to the other cards, it has a red back. The spectator is complimented on her excellent intuition in identifying this special card. ODD is reminiscent of the Invisible Deck (ID), and both tricks have a strong impact. However, I prefer ODD for strolling purposes for three reasons. First, ODD uses 52 perfectly ordinary cards. It's true that there's something "ODD" about the deck and it can't be handed out for inspection. However, the individual cards are quite normal so that you can slowly thumb through them and allow the spectator to see all their faces. The ID doesn't look nearly so normal and, in close-up situations, spectators sometimes notice its peculiarities. Second, I think the effect of ODD is more magical, or at least more inexplicable, than the effect of the IV. In the IV, the selected card flips over. Spectators find this outcome impressive but not bewildering -- they imagine that the magician somehow turned over the card. In ODD, however, a red-backed card appears in a blue deck. This seems much harder to explain than a flipped-over card. The third reason I prefer ODD is that it is easy to make. Two ODD decks can be assembled from two ordinary bicycle decks (and no other materials) in a matter of about ten minutes. ODD is fairly easy to do-- about 3 on a 1 to 10 scale. Angle problems are minimal. Re-set can be instant. Marcus Eddie is a great teacher, although I suggest that you ignore his lesson on how to construct a special cardboard card case for ODD. If you use a metal or leather card case and keep the deck face-up during the first part of the trick, you don't have to worry about matching the color of the card case and the deck. Otherwise, I highly recommend this trick. |

I recently purchased this and found it to be very deceptive. I'm still fiddling a bit with the box handling, it feels a bit unnatural, although I haven't been caught yet. I was interested in the method Matthew_Majere was referring to. Would Matthew or someone he PM'ed please PM me with his handling? Thanks in advance.

Very late to the party on this, but just got it yesterday. Would love to know how some of you have improved the handling, eliminated the case clip, altered the box etc. ??

I just recently stumbled on ODD while look at alternative methods for ID or Brainwave.
Obviously every method involves trade-offs. But my feeling is this has several advantages over the R&S approach - 1. ZERO risk of problems with R&S technology 2. Make your own deck any time with zero time/effort/expense. 3. Use any cards you like 3. Slightly different handling from R&S - which too many people are now familiar with 4. It’s a Brainwave effect, which is stronger than ID 5. You see the face before the back, unlike R&S brainwave 6. Spectator can handle the cards I think the LAST point is the real clincher. And this is my response to MitchC's question about handling. Some people DO try to grab cards. With R&S ID, you can't afford to let them touch any of them for fear of exposing the method. With this deck, you can casually toss handfuls of cards onto a table, Grabbers will automatically go for those before the ones in your hand. This will convince most people entirely. For serious grabbers, it will also give you a warning system & delaying tactic, before they lunge at you! |

Hmmm - just had a bit more of a think about this...
In a more formal performance setting, I think it would be much better to ribbon spread and show the whole deck - it would be suspicious not to. In a close-up informal setting, I like the ODD. |
