I have been looking for that tissue paper for years. I only think it is the same tissue that fruit use to be wrapped in when shipped to market. It is like everything else, they don't wrap the fruit like oranges any longer.
I tried regular tissue as used to wrap clothes in a gift box. It has a plastic coating on one side that flares up like a bond fire. Really dangerous stuff. If you find the red tissue, let us all know, please. |

The ultra light tissue that is best used for this little trick can be found in hobby stores made for airplane model makers (flying models).
You might try looking at: http://www.easybuiltmodels.com/ebl.htmI I just went to my gift wrap box and dug out a couple of sheets of pretty commonplace tissue found in Hallmark stores. I used pink (2" wide by 8" long strip) and orange (same measurement) and both worked. That is both rose well (in the back yard). The decent has to be worked on as I had to chase it across the yard. Any breeze (air conditioner, etc) will have it float away from you.

Is it right? It works.
Go to your local Hallmark store or Wal Mart and buy some inexpensive tissue paper and experiment. It all pretty much works. You may have to experiment with the dimensions a bit to get the float to go at the speed you want. My experiment showed that the cheap stuff I have in the gift wrap box worked.

Harry, my experience with the current tissue paper I purchased has a gloss side to it, and it flares up with huge flames. It leave no ash do to the intense heat it produces.
Hopefully, the hobby store craft variety will burn slower and leave an ash. |

The cheap stuff I have doesn't have a glossy finish. it is straightforward tissue paper. It burns from bottom up, leaves the required ash that floats upward until it cools then begins to descend again. Buy the cheapest tissue you can find.
I do have some printed tissue paper (zebra stripes, balloons, and sponge bob) all of which have a glossy side (the side printed). The lightweight hobby tissue works too. Just tried a length (8" long by 2" wide).
