If a medium uses a book to communicate with a spirit in a seance, what is this method called?

Sorry, I couldn't resist. Smile

To your question, do you need the actual name of that ritual or are you asking us to come up with one for you?

Fraud is accurate (LOL), but I am hoping for something a bit more mysterious sounding. I often use books in my seance performances (Gh*st, Phant*ms, Ispswit#h, etc.) It would be great to have a word that describes this method of spirit comunication. IE working with slates is automatic writing. Any ideas?

Bibliomancy?

biblio-
a combining form occurring in loanwords from Greek ( bibliography ); on this model, used in the formation of compound words with the meaning “book” ( bibliophile ), and sometimes with the meaning “Bible” ( bibliolatry, on the model of idolatry ).
Origin:
< Latin < Greek, combining form of biblíon; see Bible

-mancy
a combining form meaning “divination,” of the kind specified by the initial element: necromancy.
Origin:
Middle English -manci ( e ), -mancy ( e ) < Old French -mancie < Latin -mantīa < Greek manteía divination. See mantic, -cy

Not totally accurate, but has a nice ring to it.

Per Bill Montana its called STICH*MANCY. Thanks Bill!

The practice of Stich*mancy is at least 3000 years old. You open to a random page of randomly selected book in a library, to find an excerpt that applies to what you seek.

Stich´o`man`cy
n. 1. Divination by lines, or passages of books, taken at hazard

Oooo, I like transference also. Textural transmision sounds like a STD. Bibliomancy is interesting too. I usually stay away from religious refernces in my seances. I don't really want to hear everyones religious beliefs and conflicts after my show.

Bibliomancy has nothing to do with the bible, the bible has a lot to do with bibliomancy... Smile http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bibliography

Why have to name it at all,
why not just ease into it

As children, (a long time ago) we had access to an encyclopedic wonderland called The BOOK OF KNOWLEDGE , in twelve volumes.
It was a treasure of information that was an introduction to facts for living, learning and evolving. Not the cosmic records or the
BOOK OF TIME, but real explanations , workable experiments, and delightful adventures. Perhaps that is what we need once again.

No "-mancy" if you're not fortunetelling. Necrobiblia? Automatic reading?
