Take a three-letter word that means "hole." Rearrange its letters and put it inside a six-letter word that means "hole." The result is a word for the state of being kept in a hole. What are these words?

I quite enjoyed this one too. I didn't read the question carefully and stayed up half the night trying to come up with nine-letter words that meant "in the hole", i.e. bankrupcy—I know, there's a "t" in bankruptcy, hey, I was half-asleep at the time—and work backwards from there.

I've never heard of a "pti" before.

The three letter word is "pit".
The six letter word in "cavity".

Remember, I said to rearrange the letters of the three letter word!
