Learning how to present escapes properly to the audience, is something very difficult to do, when there are no shows in your area to learn or pattern from.
What are the best books and vids for properly presenting escapes and escape acts as well as building excitement and anticipation in your spectators? There seems to be a huge void in this area. General magic and mentalism have a large number of volumes on presentation.

I and I'm sure many others will be waiting Steve.
I did find this site where they are selling show videos. At first it looked like Cannons catalog threw up on the stage, but after a second look they appear to have a pretty well put together show. Does anyone have their videos? Are they worth buying? http://www.impossibleescapes.com/index.html

Hey great news Steve! I agree with King that there is very little available in the area of actual performance. Your manuscripts will be a welcome addition my escape library. Thanks for the heads up. Please keep us posted. Best regards, Tony Parisi

$34.50 later, I ordered the videos, again I agree with you KSD, it seems to be a Cannon's stage ad, but they also look to have some of their own works as well. I don't know how many can admit not owning something from the Cannon's. Guess we'll wait and see what these guys offer.

OK I admit it! Cannon's has a pretty big presence in my collection as well. That comment realy was good natured before it hit print. I will make better use of the smileys in the future.
If you look real close it does appear that they have a well thought out show and if they are playing the lodge at Yosimite, we pretty much know its a higher quality production. My funding is pretty well gone due to the upcoming holiday, so I will be counting on your reviews. Other than the straight jacket which always plays good, the rest of my escape stuff is pretty hit and miss and needs some serious presentation work.

KSD,
You know I'm always around to help, drop me a PM or email and we'll work out some presentations for you, I hope. My posts are well intended too in case anyone is going to jump on me for them. Shawn

I don't think someone should jump on someone else for what they posted. I beleive this Forum is to Help Someone else out who may not be sure on buying something or how to Present it. I have a BackPack that I Escape from and I'm still tinkering with how to present and do the patter for it. Don,

Hi, I am the owner of http://www.impossibleescapes.com The show is developed for upscale families that are on vacation. This is the main reason for the unique style of presentation. Many of the escapes are based on Mark Cannons products. They are well done. The most important aspect of our show is to entertain our target audience. That is more important than the escapes themselves. Our success has proven that this is an effective approach. We condider our show a lighthearted look at escapology. (Perhaps with a bit of satire about the over inflated self centered egos of some magicians.) Now, outside of our shows I enjoy working on the real tough challenges (which my audiences would actully find rather boring to watch.) The second DVD that we offer is mostly some of the more extreme things I have done. They tend to be more focused on the ligitamate without keys approach to escape artistry. But, like the show, the visuals are the most important. Thanks for the hits, it genterated quite a few sales today. I hope to meet some of you at the next escape artists convention in April.

Thank You. I just found this website yesterday when about everyone on this site all of the sudden hit my website. I had to find out where all of the hits were being refered to. By the way, for those of you who ordered DVD's on my site, they all went out this morning. By the way, my name is Mark, I understand it is the most common first name among escape artists.

Welcome aboard Mark. We're looking forward to some good posts from you, as well as meeting you in Indy at the convention in April if you can make it. I also wish to thank Mike,(aka KingStardog)for bringing your site to our attention. I ordered both of your DVD's and am looking forward to receiving them. Thanks for getting them out so quickly. Best regards, Tony Parisi

The DVD's arrived on Monday, I'll try to watch them tonight and give a report.
Shawn Doing escapes, doing comedy escapes and having gone to college to study film, I had a tough task in front of me in watching this and and reviewing the videos. The greatest strength is also the greatest weakness over all. The Extreme CD is not in front of an audience and only parts of the IE video is in front. This is good because it affords us a better look at the escapes in close up detail and excellent sound rather than a garggled mess with the fat guy standing up in front of the camera as he walks away to the bathroom. However we don't get to see the audience's reaction to all of the escapes. As well (EVERY COMEDY ACT SUFFERS THIS) the jokes are hit or miss and depends on who you are playing for. The two characters are Fred Escape - EA and straight man the other is Dave - Fred's "mentally challenged" brother who always wants to show the audience his magic tricks while Fred is trying to escape Extreme IE- WELL produced professional DVD with animated menu, "professional" sets, sound and props. To watch are: the Tom Horn Escape and the Buried Alive (no box, just Fred's body!) Sounds cooler than it was: the Electric Chair Escape. Down side, the extreme close ups of Fred's face (obviously to show the pain he is in) but I spent the time counting the nose hairs that were turning grey. OVER ALL Not Bad viewing. IE - Some Audience involvement near the end, again well made and produced the down side is that the chapters are listed Chapter 1, Chapter 2 making it hard for me to remember where a few of the escapes where to show my wife after I watched it. Again Fred is the EA and Dave is up to no good, in this what's what of Cannon's Escapes (of course the audience does not know that). To Watch: the beginning: "Secret Agent," "Vertical Cage," and the ending that no matter how difficult it already looks they make it even more difficult, I don't even want to start telling it to you, just watch it. For comdey watch the "torture anchor" the humor fizzles in the beginning and ends with a bang; "Steel Strait Jacket," Funny all the way through. Again nit picking - The Extereme close ups, some that where obviously faked, one point while in the verticle cell Fred is standing there motionless with an expression like "when is Dave going to give up" then an extreme close up of Fred flailing his arms and back out to him standing motionless. Another plus, during several escapes the "Strong Box" comes to mind the camera cut from an audience filled room to a staged setting so we can get a straight on look as Fred is explining what is going to happen, in an audience setting we would not be afforded that oppertunity as the camera would have been in the way of the audience. Finally Dave's character grinds on my nerves after a little while but so did Lou Costello and Gracie Allen, I don't think there is higer praise than that, now is there? Over all, you got the money, it is worth the investment. Shawn

Gracie maybe, but never Costello. He's one of my comedy role models. Thanks for the review Shawn. Mine arrived too but I haven't had the chance to view it yet. Best regards. Tony
