As founder and manager I am happy to introduce Jolly Roger as our very special GUEST OF HONOR for June 2013.
I'm sure the many kid show performers in our community will have much to discuss with you over the next few days. ---

Hello Steve,
Thank you so much for this opportunity. I have been entertaining children professionally for much of my life, and I look forward to answering questions from beginners and hardened professionals! Let the fun begin! |

JR. Glad to see you on this forum. What do you consider your strengths and weakness in the kid / family performance bussiness?

I feel my strengths are that I am trained in theatre(British Spelling), and that I know how to connect with children. In many ways, I am still a child myself, and love being silly and ridiculous. I also love what I do, and I believe that comes across in my shows. My main weakness is that I am a trifle disorganized in the way I put my show together. That is probably because I never really grew up and love playing with my toys(magic props)!! I hope that helps!

Mike.........I had been entertaining children for many years in London, as well as running a children's entertainment agency in that city. I was doing hundreds of shows a year, and figured that if I could do it in that city, I could do it anywhere. My wife was American, so there were no visa problems. I also like the warm weather, so I moved to Phoenix on a one way ticket with my wife and 3 kids in 1992. I have averaged over 300 shows a year in Arizona since the plane landed!!! However, it is 119 degrees here today, so maybe I made the wrong decision!!!

Hey Roger. Welcome back. It's good to see you here.
Thanks for coming and thanks to Steve for making it happen. My question is: How important is a kid show performers name? You have the perfect name for working with kids. Have you always added the "Jolly" to it? Or did you start out being just a normal Roger? Tom

Tom.........I have never been a normal anything lol!!!! In my very early days of doing children's shows, I did indeed call myself Roger Blakiston. I even wore a Suit or a Tuxedo!!!! Wisdom comes with age, and I have been Jolly Roger since the early 1980's. A name is so very important for a kids entertainer. It is vital the children remember it. I even have a song that written around my name!!! I also discarded the formal wear 30 years ago, and now wear bright colourful costumes for all my shows!!

I think it would be nice if some of you started different topics on different threads. That way we can keep everything better organized!

The title is "Magic and Mayhem with Jolly Roger". I talk all about the bits of business that are almost more important in a kids show than the tricks! I will also be exposing my famous "Cloth of Invisibility" on the DVD! |
