I am running Windows XP. When I logged on last night my computer told me I should update my Symantec Norton Anti Virus. I told it do this, when all of a sudden it decided it needed to get the Norton Firewall, since then I haven't been able to use my ISDN connection and trying to access the net with Dial-Up from where I live is a joke!
Can someone please help me!

Strange....did you check out if your modem communicates with your COM port?

Norton was probably not the culprit. Your configuration of Norton may be your culprit. Try disabling your firewall and check your ISDN. If it connects, then check your system logs to see if you can discern what errors were present before when you couldn't connect.

It is entirely possible that something flaked during the update. Try uninstalling your AntiVirus and Firewall software; reboot; reinstall and then run liveupdate. Also ensure that some malicious program download hasn't corrupted your liveupdate settings.

I've been using Norton since the Windows 3.1 days and have never had a major problem with it.

You might also want to check out http://www.grc.com to have a port scan run. (Click on the Shield's Up link) It might give you a hint as to what really happened if your computer has somehow been backdoored.

Hope this helps.

Ask your service provider if your Modem has a "built in" firewall.

If it has then this is the problem and you will need to uninstall Norton Firwall as the two together are not compatable.

Let us know what you find out.

If you have Windows XP then you have Microsoft's Firewall.
But you need to activate it!
Then close Norton Firewall and test it out.
I have Cable Modem and it works excellent.

Try disabling each of Norton's System Wide settings rules one at a time. You should suddenly find one that works.
