Seems Needle Through Balloon is now being marketed as a do it yourself science experiment

So many kids will be popping balloons they'll think you're a real magician when you pierce yours with a needle.

For many years, "Mad Science" has been demonstrating Needle Through Balloon in their shows and workshops, and then teaching the kids how it works (the science behind it).

Knowing how and doing it right still
might not work for some. You have to have 3 main factors to do this effect. 1-very sharp needle 2- lubercated very well 3 proper placement of needle All three factors have to be done right for it to work well. Todd |

What if the Hokey Pokey really IS what it's all about?
My neighbor rang my doorbell at 2:30 a.m. this morning, can you believe that, 2:30 a.m.!? Lucky for him I was still up playing my drums. |

Mr. Bowers, you forgot about the 4th requirement.....a GOOD presentation doesn't hurt also.

Skewer Through Balloon has been explained in many science books for a long time. And it is one of the many experiments that when you try at home it goes wrong due to bad explanations and variables.
Also there are many tricks out there which are science/magic Magic/science. And it is a it what came first the magic trick or the science demo. One of our shows we do as Science In A Van is called side show science. I do a circus feat then my wife explains the science. And I do sit down and carefully pick stuff that dose not reveal to much. We do do Binary numbers which power ball 60 is based on. But seeing as its in every maths magic book and in every Christmas cracker I thought it be OK. Also we try and take a science demo and perform it as magic. Ph testing kit become the Physic Potion of Peru for example. It is a tricky area at time and easy to cross a line. But it think as magicians our performance is what wins at the end. And science can only explain a small part of what we do.
Enjoy your magic,
and let others enjoy it as well! |

It was a pleasure to watch MagicIan perform this impromptu with a straightened coat-hanger. No "sharp" and no lubricant -- just placement and wizardry
