I have been subjected to some great Over The Phone magic by fellow magicians, how about you?

Example: Asking someone to get a deck of cards out and pick a card (in some way) and you tell them what card they picked (in some way.)

The best ones I have seen/used for over the phone:

1. Banachek's Reversal
2. Osterlinds 3 number prediction (spectator calls someone they know - or he waits until a mobile phone interrupts another routine)
3. Sign Language - Doug Dyment

The one Max Maven did in W.G.M. 4 using those pieces of papers and numbers Smile

Only I forgot how to do it. I did it for someone via email, and she was so gullible, it freaked her out.
how did I know that she freaked out?

well....... Smile

Al Baker had a good phone trick. Frank Garcia showed me a couple of his touches with it. I used it twice to
great reaction, one even had an imcomplete deck. The original can be found in Tarbell.

The best over the phone trick I've used is the invisible deck or brainwave deck. Just ask anyone present to call a friend and have them name a card. Bingo!

There is a phone "pick a card trick" in the David Blaine book that I have done and gotten great responses from. The "Wizard" trick is also very good-where you call the "wizard" and he tells the spectator their card that they just chose. It is quite entertaining.

But I do like the invisible deck idea-that would floor them as well.

"Number Please" from The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks is my personal favourite phone trick. Both methods, by Al Baker and Audrey Walsh, are great (I do a combination of both). Blaine's phone trick in his book is essentially "Number Please" with a slightly different handling. Also, "Scarne's Phone Miracle" from Scarne on Card Tricks is good as well. Phone magic is fun. There is a great card trick I have done a few times, where a regular deck is shuffled, cut, and a card selected by a spec. over the phone. You can name either the card, or its position in the deck. It plays really well. I don't know the origin, but a version can be found in Robert A. Nelson, Manual of Publicity and Exploitation,Revised
Edition,,Nelson Enterprise Publishers, 1966, pp.26-27

David Regal has a nice phone effect in his constant fooling series.
Mediocrity is greatly under rated!

How about Steinmeyer's nine card problem with seven cards? See pg. 21 of his book Solomon's Mind, entitled "A Telephone Mystery"

It works well, and I've used it many times.

Most of you so far have mentioned a card trick, but it can be even more simple than that.
Just do the '37' trick with the number between 1 and 50.

Scarne has a 'Magazine Test' that must be done over the phone. Sure it costs a bit, and the cost must be repeated almost every time, but it's great on magician friends. Smile

Incidentally I posted a web page with a list of these in top telephone tips.

It's already been mentioned but banachek plays a lot on the idea in 'psychological subtleties'. Reversal is a good effect for over the phone.

For over the telephone I use "What's Your Sign", I have the method laminated and taped to my desk so as I can even perform this for potential customers. Another great idea for potential bookings is Kenton Knepper's from his wonderwords series.

Try 'silent transmission telephone mystery' from page 68 in the 'Greater artful dodges of Eddie Fields". I have used this when talking with potential clients. This book is a great read, many good routines and ideas.
