I understand why it took you a lot of work to come with this routine. The amazing thing is that this trick can be seen as a simple one, but it is not. The complexity comes because the plot constructes itself from the different phases. If you see only one phase, you can't understand the effect/plot because there is no repetition. For example, in an ambitious card routine, few phases are necessary to understand the plot because of the repetition (even if there are some little variations). But it is not the case with your routine. You have to see the whole sequence to appreciate the routine. The plot constructes itself step by step. How beautifull this routine is! |

I thought the routine was wonderful. Most of the criticisms I see seem to me to be magicians overanalyzing what the spectator is thinking. Very few, if any, spectators put that much effort into this type of analysis in my experience. To me, as a spectator, there was no confusion except for Pop Haydn's confusion, and his confusion was very entertaining. I didn't see any lag in the entertainment. You kept my attention the whole way through. You kept me amused the whole way through. As a magician I saw no obvious moves as you counted the cards. I saw no planning in the dropping of the cards. The drops seemed to really be accidental. I think it was well constructed and well acted.

Thanks, David. Although I do care what the spectators are thinking at each moment, and think that the spectators analyze things much deeper than we think, though at an almost subconscious rate.

Very good! Who did the idea of accidentally dropping the cards come from?

I stole it from Senator Crandall.

Stole is the wrong phrase. It's in Tarbell. Been doing this trick for 30 years.

The "accidental" dropping of cards is in the Tarbell routine? I thought that was original to the Senator. Is the Senator's routine in Tarbell?

Well, I didn't know the Senator's routine was in Tarbell. I studied it from the clip from Don Alan's Magic Ranch. I was sure that the dropping bit was Crandall's...

Pop you mentioned that this trick is now your opener, which trick did it replaced?
|
|||||||||
Pop Haydn Inner circle Los Angeles 3691 Posts |
It is the opener for my show, "Pop Haydn in the 21st Century!"--a new show. So it isn't really "replacing" anything.
The opening effect of my "Teaching Act" was my Sucker Silk to Egg: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoUc3UCWs30 |

Thank you Pop, how many tricks are you including in the new show?
|

There is a two hour and a one hour version of the show.
The one hour show features the Amazing Miracle Oil Pitch, Six Card Repeat, Teleportation Device, Sophie Evans Fire Magic Act (10 min), Magnetized Water, and Tesla Girl (Georgia Magnet). The two hour show includes music, song and dance, and the Sphere of Destiny routine. Photos and videos of the two hour show are here: http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewt......m=27&145 |

I open with 6 card repeat also.
It's one of those things that magi moan about without ever trying it. Try it. You'll like it. |

I like this performance of Pop Haydn's, it's entertaining and magical, and the audience enjoys it.
Also-DAvid Willaimson's Famous Three Card Trick is a good take on this sort of thing |

It is a good trick, I have always had problems with the repetitiveness of standard plots for the Six Card Trick. Willliamson's Three Card Trick is really a different plot entirely, though similar.
