I don't know if it is the right place for my post but Al Schneider is famous for his coin work.
I don't know very well Al Schneider's magic but I like his ideas (I read his articles in Genii and see some videos wher he performs magic - good magic). I know him as the creator of Matrix and remember something that Tommy Wonder said about his zombie variation. I think that I will buy his book but other books are still in competition... How can you convice me to buy Al Scneider's book first? Can you give me arguments? Thanks |

I cant convince you of anything- nor would I try- decide for yourself
But: A: Every book has something you can learn about, learn from or just enjoy. B: Books are tools- the right tool makes the job easier and more efficient C: Can you ever have too many references or books D: If you don't like or use it it can be resold Personally I like his book and his book on theory as well- Both are well written and will challenge me for a long time.

The book contains his Osmosis and Cross Cards, which I love and perform as written, with no "variation" of my own. And there is lots of other great magic. And like Atom said, it's Al Schneider.

The book is large and very very detailed in the way he thinks magic works and should be executed, ie. hands position while at rest, body position and many more, in my case that I am just a hobbist, I found that the book contained too much information, that was interesting to read but most likely more useful for a performer. I sold the book, not for me.
The way Schneider writes is very pleasant, easy to follow and he knows what he talks about without any doubt. I could be more helpful if you tell us what are the other competing books. BTW, in one of those big L&L sales I got his 4 DVD series among other things, they do include some of the same tricks than the book, and some others. While I prefer books vs DVDs in general, in this case I liked the DVDs better than the book. Hope this helps |

Since you say you are just interested in his coin magic, get Mr Schneider's book Coin Magic, or Fast track to Coin Magic. Both are inexpensive and cost less than 15.00US. You can find them on Amazon.
No need to get spendy with his tome Magic. From there you can decide if you want to delve more into his work. On Amazon Mr Schneider has most of his work in small books, which he published all in Magic. There are not many books on Coin magic, which one are you wanting to compare to Mr Schneider's? |

It's a terrific book, but if your on the fence buy it as an ebook. It's less expensive.

Al Schneider is another kind from another planet in the Magic galaxy. He is so carful about the way to deceive that whatever you learn from him will serve you for life.
I would warmly recommand Al Schneider's Magic and (at least the two first ones of) his DVD series The Al Schneider Technique (which far exceeds the technical aspects of his magic) Now if you are as serious about magic as you seem, don't pass by his book The Theory and Practice of Magic Deception I have more than 60'000 titles in my library and these are in the box that I would take on a desert island

Jiceh, I think you are comparing orange and apples, one book is more theory the other is theory and tricks. If these are the 2 books in discussion, ten the magic book is a far better choice, no doubt about it.
It has tons of theory and great tricks, eventually if you buy and don't like it you can sell it to somebody else losing $20, nothing .... Just move, do something... |

You can feel more intelligent for buying a book after finding how many others cite that book in their work.
if you ask others to convince you as just a game you can see their basic rhetorical skills. Choose for yourself and learn, J PS this post written to make translation more certain, so please forgive the want of wordplay and diverting addendum antithesis.

No, Johnathan, you speak of life itself in which many look for an easy path -- of rewards without the effort. Folks now seek a piece of paper from college rather than an education and ask others what field they should play with to get a better job. Etc.
Indecision may come from never having to decide on anything based on your own wits. It is simpler to learn how to take dredit for what other accomplish and know whom to blame if you do not succeed. If Jicah (for example only) likes his book he can applaud his wisdom for asking help from the Café and sorting through the chaff. If he does not like it he can blame whichever stranger he likes -- and even the fictional consensus of those who never posted at all. Performing magic can be a metaphor the the exciting/impossible things that occur when one chooses to act rather than wait for common acclaim and support. Each book holds a bit of courage to stand up before others and do what they will not do -- place themselves at risk. Stage-fright is still the number one perceived problem cited by college students. So, whichever book or DVD you decide on -- first make a commitment that you will master three Effects from that book and perform them each at least a dozen times before you buy another book. And then make sure you read that book again every six months to discover what you missed. What the author is attempting to teach you of the "real secrets of magic" may not be obvious. The answers and tools you will find may be less important than the questions you ask afterwards of a Mentor. Magic does not come from books. It comes from your audience orchestrated by you. Make it so.
"the more one pretends at magic, the more awe and wonder will be found in real life." Arnold Furst

Everything I have read by Al has been worth my time. Al's writing are thought provoking as well as informative. If all you are looking for is something to add to your repertoire than you might want to look elsewhere. But to me Al is worth the read.

It's really not about trying to "convince" you here as to Schneider's work. Honestly, his work doesn't need convincing. To merely scan through some of his writings should reveal that it is more than worth checking out. How about this...You could not convince most people that have read through his work that that they had wasted their time, not even a little bit.
So. as already put by most here - Highly Recommended.
