I posted this in another thread but this seemed like a better place for my question.
What should someone expect to pay for website design and maintenance? I know a good website is important but I need to know a ballpark before I jump in waving money. If anyone is willing to share, either openly or in a PM, I'd be interested to know. Is there a list of minimum requirements for what you need to ask for like: how many pages, Google rating, contact forms, security assurances , paypal buttons, auto responder, video, etc...? Do you just hand it over and take what you get or do you work closely with the designer? Are your web folks close to you are are you working almost exclusively online? What did your designer suggest that you would not have thought of to enhance your site. Did they say : "I want a photo or video of this sort or did they work with what you had? I expect there will be differing experiences but I'm interested in the spectrum. Thank you. Mary Mowder |

I've paid up to $400 for web site creation but my current site I paid $40. Find someone you like and go with them. There are thousands of people out there and you can pay pretty much any amount you wish to pay - even hundreds of thousands of dollars if you wish (or hire the kid down the street for next to nothing).
Don't rely on the person to know good marketing. Know what you want BEFORE approaching a designer. The last thing you want is to trust them and not know what to expect. Find someone who knows marketing if you don't know what you should have in a web site. Have any video or photos ready before approaching the designer. Again, they can only work with what you supply them. |
