So, is/was anybody able to do Dad Steven's riffle cull smoothly? I have been practising the move for a long time, and it seems impossible to do it smoothly. I have heard that Steve Forte and Doc did the move for some time, but they quitted because it was so impossible.

Cag and play his Steinway piano at the same time without missing a beat, before he learnt to walk, on water. There is a special way of doing it smoothly, only known to top hustlers. if you ask Cag to show you the special way, then you will notice him brush his sleeve slightly and if you were Tony Giorgio then you would know what that means.

You don't need to be Steve Forte.
1) Go here: http://www.arnoldmcdonald.org/code/main.php?p=6200000 2) Select "Cheating (technique)", then click the "Display" button. 3) Download the video "Stack On The Fly I (Basic)" (right click on "Link" then "Save link as..."). In this 4 or 5 years old video I make public again for a few hours, I demonstrated my version of Stevens' cull. It's not really "Basic", what I meant by that time is that I used my "Basic" variation on Stevens' technique for that video. Anyway, as you can see you can go very fast with some practice, faster than all the videos you have probably seen so far. Not only I'm culling two big cards, but I stack them at the same time! And using a procedure common to many places I've played. I usually show that kind of material to my members only, but hey, it's summer time. Enjoy! PS: Needless to say I won't make public the one where I detail my technique(s)/variation(s). In any cases, it's not a very practical technique. |

My suggestion AMcD, use all those rings as shiners. Then you don't have to bother with anything else. Oh just kidding AMcD - or am I?. Got to have my fun once in a while. |

Cag,
- I'm *really* stacking 2 cards on the fly in that video. Cards are really shuffled, mixed. Not much space though, and not easy to stay in the camera field. A Magic trick demo? Me? I understand humor but, well, sometimes you're a bit rude with me. I'd never use a trick or try to pass a magic stuff for a move! TIP: Watch closely the big discrepancies and you may recognize some Scarne's variations... - It's not a Zarrow like stuff. I just wanted to add a "cut" to the procedure. It's a demo. When I get time, I'll show you how I really do that for real. About the rings. I've never used them as shiners, even if one or two could be used for such a purpose. But using a ring as a shiner requires to deal cards in such a way that even a blind dog would see it. But for signaling, some of them are cool... |

@AMcD: I would never be rude to you old boy. You have got to loosen up a bit or you may get an early heart attack and we wouldn't want that to happen to our premier card manipulator extraordinaire.
Thanks for the offer to demo your "on the fly" move but I already know what you are doing. Are you sure you don't want to come to Vegas and do something serious, like Hand Muck? |

Hand mucking!? OMG. Not my stuff. At all. Are you sure there are not more profitable things to do nowadays in LV than sleight of hand? Hmm... using computers? . |

The Brush is the fellow who takes care of the seating list and ensures that games are filled in an orderly fashion. Who knows what what a brush is? Not everyone is tarred with the same brush. One can have a brush with the law, or brush someone off, or brush up on ones slang and know what a case of the Basil Brush is or be as daft as a brush, or ….
Anyhow that was cool Arnold. I saw David Ben doing his thing which was also cool. And also Doc using strippers and getting nailed and it's all good fun. Speaking of brush strokes by the way, if one wants to get into the art student scam, then one can get some beautiful works from Moscow.

I know three very beautify woman who are dying to meet you when you get here, and I figured mucking would give you enough money to keep them very, very happy and probably impress them more than "stacking on the fly." |

I toyed with the move for a week or two and did not find it that difficult to do riffling at moderate speed. However, I made a couple of modifications in the handling that for me “improved” the move and also a way to make spotting the cards faster and easier so the riffle could be done at a more normal speed. Also, I limited it to two or three cards maximum depending on how the cards laid during the shuffle. I found the move to be pretty impractical for card table use, except for a bottom deal, and did not spend a lot of time with it. However, for magicians taking the deck from scratch and locating a specific four of kind would be much more difficult and to me a waste of time. Even for magic demos there are better ways to “wow” an audience with this type endeavor IMO. Vernon really enjoyed driving other magicians up the wall with “moves” and “stories’ he was privy to and believe me, from my limited time with him, he reveled in this endeavor and developed it into a "light-hearted ball-busting" art form. I think I read something somewhere where Forte commented that it was impractical and not necessarily "impossible." For magician use, getting four of a kind usually takes too many shuffles. At the card table, getting two or three cards may have some uses if the value of the cards did not have to be specific, like Aces. |
