I've performed there many times since 1982. I've worked both the Parlour of Prestidigitation and the Palace of Mystery, but I prefer doing the late shows in the Parlour. Have also lectured there many times.

I've performed at private parties there, but not officially in the Close-Up Gallery, Parlour, or Palace.
Yet. |

I have performed there several times doing "overflow." that is smaller rooms to entertain the guests who did not get seats in the "offical" rooms.

It works a lot better if you live in LA LA Land, because people do not perform there for the money.

I've done a couple of the weekend Brunch Performances. But I, as of yet, have not had the privilage of gracing the stage there for a week of evening shows. I've sent in applications and demo DVDs. But it seems I'm not the type of act they are currently looking for.

I've performed in the overflow venues and in the impromptu areas. Lots of fun!

Now that we have established that it does not pay well, and you plan to be there for an extended stay. What makes you thing that they will want you? Master Payne has a world wide reputation, and can't seem to get himself booked for a whole week. I have a friend of mine who performed there just recently and it was literally his vacation.

The pay scale and perks have gone up a bit in the past few years.
Keep in mind that while members and visiting magicians are free to perform for guests in certain areas of the Castle, they are not paid and featured performers like those who are engaged to perform in the formal showrooms. |

The pay scale is actually pretty good, nearly twice what was quoted. There are more than nine paid performers each week. We change acts every week.
The Castle now has an apartment for out of town guests, and there is a posi-card that pays for food and drinks. It is a pretty good deal. I perform there about four or five weeks a year, usually one week in each show room. It is the most wonderful place in the world to work. They treat you very well--even providing your own butler to bring you drinks and food all evening. The audiences come dressed up and wanting to see magic. They are the best audiences you will find anywhere. Besides, you will see so many well-known magicians passing through the Castle in one week. It is an amazing place, and a very great place to have video taken, or to bring clients or agents. |

Yes- I was, in fact, the first to stay in the apartment after it was made available to out of town performers. It was originally Dai Vernon's apartment. (If the guest book is still in the drawer, you'll see my comments on the first page.)
And the posi card is also a great benefit. |

S200-
No need to apologize. I didn't think you were suggesting otherwise. I just wanted to point out that performing at the Magic Castle and getting paid to perform there are two entirely different things. The OP wasn't really clear to me. |

You know.... I submitted a demo DVD application to appear at the castle. I wanted to be a paid performer in the Parlor of Prestdigitation. I was not accepted as a paid performer. But, Jack Goldfinger who books the performers is a very nice man. He didn't say screw you Cliff, we don't want you. He said that my style did not fit what he was looking for in the paid rooms. Then he did two very nice things. First he sat down with me and went through my act step by step to show me how to improve it. He did not have to do that, but he used his time to help me out. Then he booked me for over flow. Now, while not paid, overflow is a great way to practice and develop your skills and character in front of a real audience.
