If you go to Bangkok, Thailand then you must go to Pattaya and watch the magic show: Tuxedo Magic.

More info here: http://www.tuxedo-magic.com/

Thailand is a great county for tourists, very cheap hotels, wonderful food, transportation etc. Hot weather everyday.
Pattaya is a town with lot of tourists. Here you have lot of hotels, guesthouses, bars, restaurants, thai massage (6 dollar per hour), big shopping malls and more. And, there is a beach with "hot" water. Crime rate is low here, but its not zero.
Sometimes you can see a street magician on the Walking street, he do cards and levitating, great guy.

The best of all, everything is "cheap" here. Dentist, glasses, clothes etc, very cheap or small money. I can recommend thai food, tasty.
You can rent a nice/clean hotel room for one month for 400 dollar (13.000 Thai Baht) and you can find cheaper and more expensive rooms of course. If you look on the the internet for hotels, the more expensive ones show up, just go there and walk around and ask for the best price, closer to beach more expensive. Its easy to go to Thailand, lot of airlines fly over there, from my country sweden, it cost 800 dollar out and return. Here you have a great time, sure.

Many people that are retired from work lives here and have a great life. I have many friends in Pattaya, easy to get new friends or a thai-girl friend.
Several magicians goes here every year, I met some of them.
Feel free to ask any questions about Thailand or Pattaya.
Yes, there are many places to go in Thailand, if you stay long time then you can go to other places: Bangkok, Chaing Mai, Phuket.

If you go Thailand one time, you will go back again, sure.

Thailand is indeed extremely cheap but the Tuxedo magic show was all but great at least when I saw it 2012. Just common store bought illusions like water levitation, Omar Pasha blacklight act done in darkness and so on... And I would stay away from Pattaya unless your into heavy drinking and prostituion... After all most of Pattaya revolves around those two. The beach and water are pretty much unswimmable and there are much better beach destinations in thailand.
